My 996 had the same thing at 5k miles. Got a new engine and everything has been perfect ever since. No worries.

The dealer has told me that I will get a new engine with all accessories attached from Porsche. The mechanic told me all he does is attach the transmission and it is ready to go. Is there a chance I will get a re-manufactured engine?

Yes, most likely it is remanufactured.

The block is most likely not new.

Interesting that mine was also cylinder #4 that was the culprit. As far as new vs. remanufactured, from what I have been able to find, the engines are remanufactured, but the source for the motors are ones that didn't originally meet Porsche critera when dynoed before putting them into a car. They are then torn down, all the tolerances, etc rechecked, then re-assembled with new parts, seals, bearings, etc., re-dynoed, and then used for replacement purposes. Essentially a blueprinted motor with all the spec's doubled checked. I doubt that Porsche would want to gamble on a motor, especially having to deal with a customer who has already gone throught the pain and inconvience of having a bad motor in the 1st place.

It's great that your Porsche is back on the road with a brand new motor. to Foreign Cars in Greensboro NC. Those people are great.

Not sure about that, probably depends on the cause of its demise. I am not that naive as to believe that does not happen, but the motor in the car now runs (and better than the previous one), and the one in it before didn't. Still under warranty.
