Hey guys... I'm new here and would like some advice. I'm in the market for my new car currently looking at a z06 (flame suit on) and either the 997 s or the cayman. I was just wondering if the 911 is really worth the extra charge over the cayman? How do the driving experiences compare between the two? Also can anyone point me to a dealer in the northern cal? I've been to porsche of stevens creek and they had a small inventory.

thanks in advance

Gurmann,

welcome to rennlist. My suggestion would be to use the 'search' button above each forum for things like "911 vs Z06" ect.

Being a PORSCHE forum, you're going to get a very shaded (and better ) opinion in favor of Porsche's.

That having been said, no other car drives exactly, sounds exactly, or looks EXACTLY like a Porsche. I've said it before, I'll say it again. A Porsche is an experience unlike any other.

Are you looking at a C5 or C6 ZO6?

What Z06? If your wallet can afford it Go buy a 997!

I ordered/bought my 06 Cab from Steven Creek 2 years ago and only got $2.5K off. If you don't mind buying it out of town, I believe many guys here got a great deal from a dealer in Ohio.

thanks guys.... I'm leaning more towards the porsche. It's always been my dream car, especially now that I can afford one. I was actually wondering about the driving experiences between the 997 s and the cayman. Those are my two front runners. What is the name of the dealer in Ohio??? thanks

No regrets after 14 months of ownership (997) not once have I muttered, boy I made a big mistake not getting the Corvette or Cayman. The 911 has a soul and cuts like a physician’s scalpel. I have been a proud owner of the Porsche marquee for approximately 17 years!

You can read my today's thread to get some of my background. I owned and tracked a C5 ZO6, and considered and drove several C6 ZO6's, and Cayman S's before buying my 997S. Your decision depends totally on personal priorities. The ZO6, comparatively speaking, feels numb in the manner it transmits steering. braking, and road feedback to the driver. But don't mistake that for meaning the car is anything less than competent. A well driven ZO6 will be quicker around any track than a 997S, and it's not just acceleration and speed, but handling too. Personally, I found the 997S more fun to drive. But, the way the car communicates is important to me. Someone else would want the faster (and cheaper) car. The Cayman needs more power, but then its lacking LSD would be a greater issue. The 911 needs it too, but the rear weight really gives the 997 good traction. I don't believe I lost any time on track with inside wheel spin. It would be different in the wet, but I don't drive on a wet track anyway. The Cayman is lighter than the 997, and it feels it; a bit more nimble. But, it didn't feel quite as well planted to me when pushed. And the interior felt just a bit cramped to me. But since I immediately knew I wanted more power, I probably didn't give the Cayman a totally fair chance. You just need to drive them. You will feel enough differences that a decision should not be hard.

Fletcher Jones in Fremont is nice. Not sure of their current selection, you're not ordering one?

Over the Cayman? Was an easy choice for me since I occasionally chauffeur my kids around.

I bought from Stevens Creek and was treated first class. The dealers in so cal were not very helpful when it came to an order. Stevens Creeks was able to get the order in and the car in a total of 2 months. They are owned by Penske who has 9 or 10 Porsche dealerships. That was about 9 months ago, so maybe things have changed. The pricing was also good compared to the market at that time.....GR

I also ordered from Stevens Creek and will be getting the car in a little over a month. Definitely first class service, the salesmen there are all very pleasant to talk to as well as helpful. I, too, got a good discount from them.

Carlsen Porsche (Redwood City / Menlo Park) is the biggest dealer by volume. I've had a great experience there. Stevens Creek (Service) guys are crooks.
