Top up or down!? Hahaha, I've had mine up to 150-160mph for say half a minute then down to 120mph.

I also raced a 777 from Hong Kong to Vancouver against my 747-400...I smoked him I had all 4 big GE's just burning, Mach 0.93 baby! Over 1100 km/h with 400 passengers and a couple hundred thousand pounds of cargo and the same in fuel My ground speed was well over Mach 1. None of the Business/1st Class passengers noticed on their screens?

87 Cab....... 245km/hr (~153mph)
97 Cab....... 240km/hr (~150mph)
05 Cab.......230km/hr (~143mph)

Kind of a reversing trend, where the quicker my car gets, the slower I've seen it go.

Or along the lines.....to soon old, to late smart?

Speed doesn't kill you....It's the sudden stop that gets you

It was stock and broken in,--but in those days suspect the speedo was a little optimistic. Also, I peaked at 150 but only on the downhill portions of the autobahn.

Top up!

0.93 is pretty good for a 747-400. If you're just hauling freight and empty that trip you can really crank 'em up! Unlike the US fighter that measures fuel in pounds we measure the fuel in 400s in kilos!

I completed the Reno to Las Vegas leg in a little over 4.5 hours with a couple of stops for gas. I drove at speeds in excess of 150 for long periods of time. During the entire event, I had the car at around 170, as did my co-driver.
One of the interesting things was that while the numerous Ferarris and Lambos were plenty fast and looked great, they had to keep stopping for gas. The Porsches were far more efficient at cruising in excess of 100 over great distances while averaging 22+ mpg. I guess it would have been less important if everyone had a pit crew.....
As a final preemptive note-- I agree with the following:
- it is stupid to drive that fast on public roads
- such an event is not a legitimate excuse to flagrantly disregard applicable laws (speeding and others)
- such driving should be limited to the track in a controlled environment
- I would never let any of my children participate in such a thing

Corky, Driving in excess of 150; love to hear your comments on handling and upper range torque with the 996. Also, at what speed did you feel the Porsche was most comfortable efficient stride at significant triple digit speeds.

Autobahn A8 toward Munich
189 mph indicated 2005 C2S...decelerate to 170, then start in with the brakes!

Autobahn A7 toward Ulm
150-175 mph indicated (30 minutes) indicated 1997 C4S (rock solid--sports suspension)
-best part was watching the governed BMWs and Mercedes fade in the rear view mirror

No crosswinds - maybe floaty wasn't the best word - it just feels light. So the responsive steering feel you have at normal speeds seems disconcerting at high speeds. I'm sure the car is stable, but not compared to the feel of the M3.

I measure it in pounds though, and since I'm the Check Pilot that's what goes hahaha.

It reached 0.93 on a descent from 41,000 to 37,000feet.

Anyways, back to cars! Sorry

Mach .93 in a 747, was that ground or true airspeed? Never flown an aircraft that large but at .93 true airspeed is what about .07 away from the wings departing the aircraft.
