New nav DVD?

Not to confuse things - but when I had my 996C4S with Nav Porsche sent me the updates periodically w/o me asking or paying.

I have done a search for Navigation DVD upgrades with little results. I have an 05 Cab with Nav that has the original DVD. I saw where someone has a DVD dated May 06. I am getting ready to order a new disc for $199. Is there a later date or is May 06 the most current? Thanks in advance.

I don't know how old my Nav disc is but it still shows roads that are for horses only and freeways for steam cars.
In Boston with all the "Big Dig" stuff, there are a few tunnels which don't exist in the NAV. The cool thing is that the NAV still shows your position cruising across a blue aquatic screen like you're on a ferry.
I have periodically seen Porsche NAV DVD's for sale on EBay. Some discs seem to be legitimate OEM such as this 5/06 disc for $200.
I have seen others in the past which are more likely copies of the original.

I hear that they added zipcode search and a few other items to the "newer" NAV DVD.
Never got any notice from Navteq who is supposed to notify us when newer versions are avalible (for a cost).
I'll have to see one in action to tell if it's worth it.

Beware: If you have a pre mid-June 2005 build 997 you have PCM Model Level A. Your PCM S/W is either 1.0, 2.0 or 2.1. The latest NAV DVD that you can use w/ that hardware is dated 10/2004. Later versions of NAV DVDs are not compatible w/ the PCM hardware and therefore will not work.
I know because I've tried later DVDs and the PCM reports 'incompatible NAV DVD' when it tries to load.
I'm not aware of any later DVD than 10/2004 for early 997s.

My 12/06 delivery car has the May '06 disk.
I would want to know what was on the updated disk before I paid money for it. I have seen Nav updates that didn't have any noticiable changes to the maps.

I don't think you'll see any feature upgrades.
You might see added POI's and new street mapping data. Unless you travel frequently to a newly developed area I doubt if you'd see any difference. I find the Porsche/NAVTeq POI feature to be substandard anyway. It doesn't allow you to enter a specific name (ie. Starbucks). You must enter their POI category list and then hope that it's listed.
I've used aftermarket NAVs that run circles around ours. The only thing it has going for it is that it's fully integrated w/ the PCM.

I am "up in" this dvd-nav deal.
I have a launch car with the 2.1 software and 4/2005 disc.
I recently inquired as to how to get the newest version of the dvd and was told 10/2005 is the best I can do with that software.
The dealer told me that I didnt want a newer dvd because it was $700, but that he would upgrade my software anyway, because the upgrade got rid of some glitches.
The upgrade didnt take and evidently he fried my pcm module and the audio amplifier.
I have been told he will be intalling a new amplifier and the newest pcm controller along with the 2.1b software and giving me the 997-642-257-04 disk (I guess since the old dvd doesnt work with the new controller).
Anyway, all this is to be seen and supposed to go down tomorrow.
I am holding my breath that it works and bracing for the worst (cautiously pessimistic).
I will keep you posted.

I went by the dealer today and asked my sale person about the latest Navigation DVD. I have an 06 C2S that I picked up last April. The DVD was dated 4/2005. He checked that the latest version was dated 10/2006. I asked how can I get a copy of it since my car came with 1 year old version and he told me that normally I have to buy the upgrade from parts, but since I'm a good customer he just gave me the latest DVD. I put it in and the first thing it did was updated my software. That took about 3 min. I have not had any time to play with it yet since I just got it but I'll let you know if I see any major differences.
