guess we gotta agree to disagree. not sure how you can say that most theives have been in jail, some yes, but most? and that most work with a partner? im not trying to be arguementative, but you are speaking like an authority on the subject. i like to see statistics...proof. unless these just your personal feelings. anyway, whats right for you may not be right for everyone. if i defend my property im not looking for a fight, or trying to be a hero. i am defending my property...that is all.

What I am saying is that most thieves breaking into million dollar condos in south beach to get Porsche headlights are organized and "professional" thieves. These people do not work alone...they have a driver, lookout, and the actual thief....this is why you dont catch them....these are my feelings from knowing people in that element...from knowing people from the streets and my instincts for staying out of trouble...my comments were meant to be food for thought....before you get a silent alarm with a pager so you can confront the thief, think about it....thats all....

WOW this is completely new to me...when I did my conversion I was thinking about how easy the light can be taken out......now I have one more thing to worry about.....luckily my P never sits out side at night...but if you are sitting in a movie or in a restaurant etc.....maybe I should take them out myself and put them in the trunk!! (like that is going to happen!)

Back in the day - in the UK - I used to have to park my car in a bad area every day to go to university.

There were a load of car thefts from this area, as I guess the theives knew the owners were away for hours, and it was safe to try and steal the cars.

I actually used to take off my Momo steering wheel each morning (before the days of airbags) and take it into Uni with me!

I kept a socket wrench in the car especially for this purpose

Never had the car stolen strangely enough

Maybe this post is old or it's already been posted somewhere, but I've been absent for a while on Rennlist. As far as a system is concerned. There is a guy in Miami (company is Auto Alarm Specialist) www.autoalarmspecialists.com that connects some sensors to your headlights and ties it in to your factory alarm. I had my lights stolen in front of my house last year and was going though the hassle of taking out the lights every night until a friend recommended him. I just had the system installed today and am happy with the way it turned out.

I'd say yes . By backing down and saying "Its only property, let it go" one sends the message there are no consequences to such theft.

Enough thieves end up with broken bones or dead and the landscape shifts away form such theft being an easy target.

If the thieves begin to know that some of the owners may be sneaking up on the with a 9mm and 15 rounds in the clip, it changes thinking.

To bad one cannot plant C4 devices that can be remote radio activated..... (in my fantasy world, I'd wait 30 minutes until after the theft and press the radio detinator.. .problem solved)

Not sure if it has been mentioned but headlight theft is not unheard of on any makes, not just Porsche. Someone mentioned they are stolen for rice rocket on the first page, while I don't think that is not possilble, the majority goes to body shops or if it's HID, very likely for people wanting to upgrade their non-HID units. What amazes me is how many of these end up on ebay. Just search any popular makes/models + headlight. And look at the description on all the ones that are used or like new. You will be amazed almost all of them will mention something about broken or repaired tabs I guess the irony is these thieves care about their feedbacks on ebay

The first I heard of this problem was with Nissan Maxima's, then 997's. Apparently on BMW's you can't remove the Xenons without opening the hood, which makes them much less susceptible to this problem. You would think Porsche would have addressed this issue with all of the press I have seen about the issue in SoFla! That being said, I know you have great weather in Miami, but I would never own a car of this caliber without a secure locked garage facility, but then again it could happen anywhere, shopping mall, restaurant etc.
Porsche needs to make it harder for the crooks!
