As a recent "pre-owned" C2S buyer, I'll give my take on the resale question. I think modifications hurt resale value. There is a certain stigma attached to modded cars. Maybe there is a perception that modified cars have been abused, raced, etc. Or maybe there is a perception that modifications are not truly "upgrades", but simply replacements of Porsche-engineered parts with other parts designed and built by someone other than a Porsche engineer. Or maybe it's that modifications can destroy a Porsche warranty. That's a scary proposition, IMHO.
Personally, I wanted my Porsche to be a Porsche, unmodified. I realize Porsche's engineers built certain compromises into the car, and that these can be eliminated with aftermarket upgrades, i.e. exhaust, brakes, springs, etc. But I like the idea of an expertly-engineered car with compromises built into it. Compromises that make it more comfortable, more user-friendly, and more reliable. To me, that makes the car more special. It is a purebred Porsche.
I also recognize that my feelings are not completely realistic. Some aftermarket parts will be superior to the OEM parts supplied by Porsche. Certainly less expensive for what they are. But it's the "purebred" feeling that I don't want diluted.
Here's a good example: there is a Supercharged C2S on ebay with $38k in "upgrades" for what should be an extraordinary price. Demand for it is pretty low. Here's the link:

Any pcar owner that bought the car with "resale value" as a high priority.....misses the fricken point altogether.
Shoot........we've been modding these cars forever...that's their strength, they CAN be personal.....and it's fun doing it.
A complaint of original M96 was....hey, what the heck can we do w/this??
I drove a brand new 993 from Zuffenhausen to Strosek in Ammerssee for significant mods.........the car is beautiful, I'll never get rid of it.....it is Porsche.
