I love my 996 C4S, but as I get older, and the Ohio roads get worse, I am finding the ride a bit too harsh for me.
I am thinking of ordering a 997 c2s, For those who have driven both (either 996C4S or 996 Turrbo and the 997 carerra s, is there much of a difference in ride comfort between the 2?
thanks

i have driven a 996 cab and there is no comparison to the 997. granted the 996 cab is going to be a little more flexy anyway and it was a 2003. I find the fit, finish, and ride in the 997 C2S superior (although, again, havent driven a 996C4S). If you are looking for comfort....dont press the SC/PASM button though. you may want to consider a cayman s. its a great ride and very comfortable with the standard 18's.

The major difference between the 4S and S will be lighter feeling front end. When we first got the 997 S, it was my 993 S feel (that I missed with the C4 Cab) with todays technology. I felt like I could get the back end loose (like I could with the 993 S) but the car won't have it. With the PASM and Sport Chrono equipped S Cab that we currently have, I would say that both my wife (who drives it doggedly) and me (sold my 97 S that was track/street worthy) feel very safe and don't mind not having 4x4.
If you are susceptible to snow and a lot of rain in your area, I would spring for the 4S. The looks alone are nearly worth the difference. Either way, the 997 IMO is easier to drive at speed, much faster/better torque and equipped with an adjustable suspension will give you many miles of happy motoring.

Pardon me for chiming in not being a previous c4s owner rather a 3series non-M BMW owner, I find the 997S comparatively comfortable. The seats are very comfortable and suspension is not stiff unless I press the sport button ![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)
One thing I notice and it doesn't really bother me or the comfort of the ride but the front end does bob up-and-down a bit, kind of like mild turbulence on an airplane.
My dad who turned 60 last year also liked the ride but complained about getting in and out of the car. I told him if I live to be 80+ I'll still have a nice sports car around, entry/exit to be damned I'm in it to drive!

thank you for the replies, I also had a 993 and always felt like driving it was like skiing fast-- i was in control, but had to pay attention because one mistake could be serious. With the 996 C4S, I feel safer, but there is less "adrenal rush".
I will probably get a C2 because I have other cars I can use when the weather is bad (which it often is in northern Ohio, like the Browns)

Mal28, I have had the pleasure to drive the 996 C4S and all of the 997's and can honestly say the ride on the 997 Base model with 18" alloys is the most impressive. When the 997 first came out all of the UK, Australian and Japanese magazines that I read agreed that the car to get was the 997 C2.
With the C2S you have to have the 19" alloys (not sure if you can exchange them with the dealer) but the 18" wheels are the ones to have. The PASM is a bit extreme with sport for some (I only drive with the sport ON) but in the base car with the normal setting the ride is incredibly comfortable.
Best thing is to try the same route with a few different cars back to back for a comparison.
Let us know how you decide!
