Another Valentine 1 Installation

posted this arrangement before. The plexiglass radar rack (RR) was a prototype made by a friend
I also saw a pic on the boxster board that had a V1 mounted in a custom box just below the rear window. It was covered in carpet and was pretty well stealth.
My reception is fine. I did have to turn the laser off because there is some kind of infared on the PCM unit that triggers it constantly. I figure that laser is a waste anyway

Guys, I keep pondering and pondeing about what to buy. I need a very clean look for the radar detector. I've looked at the Valentine, the K40, etc.
I do not want to see something that does not look integrated with the beautiful interior of my C4S Cabrio.
Do you have any suggestions, pics, etc.

This is a pretty slick way of hiding it...

Just need a stealth location for the unit, and wire it to the concealed display in the mirror...

edgy01- had to tell you that I think your cab is spectacular- what a looker! Now that I have seen where you installed the unit I think I may be able to do the same in my 996- thanks!

You're welcome!
I'm working on a design to hide the head unit (antenna) if at all possible). But, I just don't want to compromise detection range.
Interestingly, one of the websites on radar detectors emphasizes that these units be mounted low on the windscreen so that it is closer to the front plate and thus better able to pick up laser transmitters. I think you have to evaluate your area as to which threat is the highest,--and most prolific. If laser is big in your area then something else might be better while the 'radar' detectors are maintained up high on the screen for max detection.
I'm working on the laser countermeasure now which doesn't require power of any sort and is somewhat passive...
Sadly, the in-the-mirror display only is for the DISPLAY, and doesn't address where to place the antenna assembly. I've thought about the area adjacent to the wiperblades but it is not able to get line of sight in either direction because of metal structures. But I'm not giving up yet!

Quite enlightening. Found it on the turbo forum. Excellent install with the V1. Since visiting the officer forum I have decided to only use the RD when on a long road trip.

the only bad thing is that you detector will get direct sun/heat on it. if it gets hot enough it could damage it. that is why i always install mine this way:

always covered from direct sunlight.

Since I'm no longer in OKC the temp issue is a non-player for me. Also, I'm not about to drill holes in leather visors to attach a radar detector (as well as lose visor functionality).

I think that Lexus is now sporting an active cruise control (like M-B Distronic) that uses an infrared lidar to manage vehicle spacing. That'd be a perfect false bogey to keep the V1 screaming "laser alert!".

Thanks, Don. That has to be it. I was expecting it to be a "lighting" issue but didn't think outside the usual visual spectrum.
