Photon 4 thread

Valentine 1 thread

Radar detectors

This is just 3 of the 83 topics concerning this issue.

(I'm not having a good day, my apologies for the inconvenience of asking you to do a SEARCH!)

Edit: Many of these threads are available to Rennlist members only. Once again, apologies for my lack of knowledge how you could survive these past five years without paying John the $17.95 he asks for membership.

I need to go take some Advil, my head hurts.

Be very careful on the jammer - very illegal from what I've heard and read. Talked with a police chief on Tuesday and we were joking about the subject and he quoted statutes and the like about how it's serious and interfering with something or other. I haven't heard that many stories, but I've heard a few and they were ugly. Detection is fine and legal, especially in states where they are allowed. But interfering with radar / laser is a big no-no.

I don't think there's any law against making it harder, such as applying a coating on say a front plate (if you have one). Not sure...

The Advil is working.

The best radar detector/laser jammer is the Beltronics RX75 Plus IMHO.

I was going to install this system in my 944, but I was informed that NC does not use laser in traffic enforcement/revenue enhancement.

If NY is active in using laser, this is the system I woud purchase, despite the $1,600.00 price tag. If you purchase from the Beltronics factory, you will receive free istallation. Purchase from a non-factory site i.e. Radardetectors.com, installation (about $400.00) will be out of your pocket.

I chose to purchase a Valentine One and have NO regrets, especially after saving the $1,000.00 by not buying the Beltronics.

OTOH, if anyone is on US 421 between Winston-Salem and Wilkesboro, N C in the next three hours, watch out! I'm coming through.

My car's at the dealership right now getting that installed. I hope it's as good as people claim because it's price is uhmmm, well, a lot of money. I got the bluetooth one so my setup will be really stealth. I'll take pictures once it's back.

Short version:

Radar falls under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which regulates transmission radio wave (radar) signals. You must have a license to broadcast on the frequencies where radar is used.

Laser usage falls under the Food & Drug Commission. There are no laws restricting the use of laser in the manner necessary to "jam" or "confuse" a laser speed device.

Quickie from IL as an example of the illegal nature of radar / laser jamming:

Sec. 12-613. Possession and use of radar or laser jamming devices prohibited.

(a) ... a person may not operate or be in actual physical control of a motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is equipped with any instrument designed to interfere with microwaves or lasers at frequencies used by police radar for the purpose of monitoring vehicular speed.

(d) The radar or laser jamming device or mechanism shall be seized by the law enforcement officer at the time of the violation.

Perhaps it depends on the state?

Just found this on "RadarBusters" when searching google for the law in my state (CT). It appears the list is not up to date as it is missing IL - my guess is all states are coming over because why would a state want to allow laser jammers?

Laser jammers are illegal to operate in the states of: Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado and Washington DC.

Radar jammers are illegal to own and/or operate in all 50 states per the Federal Communications Commission.

Yes, it does vary by state. My initial response was on the global legality of using the devices.

It appears a handful of states ban the laser jamming devices themselves, much like VA bans radar detectors. I wonder how ofter it's enforced?

Default The one and only K-40

The new K-40 is one of the best options and will pay for any tickets if it did not respond.

You need a front and rear setup. It's all Bluetooth, so no wires all over. Very nice remote as well. Small LED's show front or rear.

Although the V1 is very good, one week a friend and I took a drive with our cars. He has V1, I have K-40. I got a warning much sooner than he did. I do like the V1 as they can be mounted high enough to gain an edge. However, my friend is having the K-40 installed in his car.

As long as you have V1, you're pretty well covered.

K-40 is a bit more esoteric.

Deanski
