High Mileage 997's
How long do people keep their 997's? I have no idea how long I will keep mine at this point. Someday I just might buy another one and give the one I have to my kids (adults). How long do these engines last and at what mileage do you start having to baby it? While I'm at it. How do the electronics fair in high mileage 911's. How does the body stand up?

At 20,800 miles I know I have a good amount of miles if not "high miles", I've had my 997S for exactly two years this month. I also "go back and fourth" about keeping it long term or not for several reasons.
I have had a few issues with mine: replaced items: 3 RMS's, shifter cable, driver side vents, windshield moulding, drivers side seatbelt sticking and the normal recalls. These issues seem to be standard P-car items so I'm no longer concerned about it. My car is a C2S without navigation or CD changer, so (compared to other optioned 977's) it probably has the least to go wrong with it or become outdated. As far as I know the engine and electronics are solid, with a little maintaince I think the car is a keeper.
I had to have some body work done on mine, due to the fact that the rear fender was to thick to perform the "paintless dent removal" from a car door ding. From a longterm stand point I see that as an attribute.

My experiences with Porsches have been trouble free. l have a '91 Carrera 4 that has aprox. 77,000 miles with no problems. I also had a 2002 Boxster until this year, and other than an RMS leak, never had a problem. Thus far, my 997 has been trouble free, although it only has 2,900 miles.
