I remember seeing a post a while back that showed the mathmatical top speeds for each gear for a 997 S. Does anyone still have that link?

With my car in Sport mode, the digital speedo showed 153mph, on the hard rev limiter, at the top of 5th gear.

Might want to calibrate the speedo...they usually read a few mph higher than the actual speed. Given that things look pretty close to the R&T article.

It's true. The R&T article quotes 69 for 2nd gear. I remember once doing 69 in second gear but had to stop because I couldn't see the road over her ***.

I think in sport mode the rev limiter kicks in at about 7400 rpm.

Hi,
At 7,200 or 7,400 it is hard to tell the
difference when the rev. kicks in. I think it
is supose to kick in at 7,200.

Somehow, I thought the top speed was 187, but 182 - 187 - either way I'll never see either.

i can also confirm that speeds reached( at end of gears) are higher in sport mode by a few mph

Top speed is truly 182,--or thereabouts. I got close, and the car had plenty of pull, in that range, even in 6th gear.

I am a new rookie owner, 2780 miles x 2.5 months.

This article helps me to recollect my first "sport mode" freeway entance after breakin.

I only remember that in what seemed like a blink of an eye, I was doing 115 mph. Exhilarating, amazing, frightening quick. Regardless, I could'n't remember what gear that I was in- had to be 4th.

I plan on attending the PDE this spring.

Sweet - I'd love to see 180 in this car. Even at 130 (the highest I've gone in my 911 thus for - on a track), it isn't even breaking a sweat -- even with the top down.

Hell, I've done 140 in my Mercedes, so I'm embarrased I haven't been able to go faster in the 911 yet. However, they changed the race track up here which slowed down the straight so I just can't manage to get much faster at this point. It also doesn't help that the track has a crappy surface, so if you overcook it you'll be on VERY bad conditions which aren't very forgiving to cars going 100+. so that tempers my desire to push it harder.
