Default HIST. OF PORSCHE

With the holidays around the corner. Does anyone have a suggestion on a book or publication that gives the most complete written history of Porsche. I am not talking about the hundreads of coffee table picture books with small inserts of words sold on the closeout shelves of Barnes and Noble but a true interesting and complete history of the car manuacturer we all love and respect. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

"Porsche: Excellence Was Expected" by Karl Ludvigsen is the bible.

3x volumes, over 1,500 pages. $260.

See http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=gpex

Karl.
YES Buy it. There is no substitute.

If you only buy one Porsche book (well really 3) this is THE one.

Worth every penny.

"Porsche 911 - Perfection by Design" by Randy Lefingwell. It's a coffee table book with pictures, but I think it provides a very nice history of Porsche as well as each generation of the 911 series.

I like "Porsche 911 Story, The Entire Development History" by Paul Frere. An excellent technical history of the 911 with lots of graphs and technical drawings of the 911 from the 901 up to the 996.

I wouldn't recommend this at all if you're looking for a comprehensive history.

I got it last Christmas and though it makes for a good looking coffee table book, I was disappointed by the contents.

I'd like to get that 3 volume set recommended above. Sounds like it's the comprehensive work I've been looking for as well.

I agree. I got it last year for Christmas as well and I thought it was kinda choppy and, dare I say, amateurish, compared to the "Porsche: Excellence was Expected" set.

The Karl Ludvigsen (sp?) 3 volume set is phenomenally comprehensive. Don't be put off by the relatively high price. It is a BARGAIN for a Porschefile.
