Default 997 Oil Change

I spend most of my time on the 928 Form, but my neighbor came to me with this question that I could not answer.

His father was changing the oil on his 2006 997 for the first time and when he had drained all the oil he only got about 3 Qts out. The plug that he used to drain had some sort of shaft and a spring attached to it.

Was he draining the transmission or the pressure relief? He said that this plug was the only one he could find on the crankcase. As far as I know this engine does not have a true dry sump, but would the faux dry sump prevent all the oil from coming out?.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I you go to the next page of these posts, you'll find a very informative (with pictures) stream of emails that explains a DIY oil change.

The post is actually on page 3. Here's a picture from those posts that show the drain plug and filter.

sounds like he drianed the oil pump, you realy dont want to mess with that, any contaminats or nicks on the piston could casue some issues
