Whaaaaat??? ... The 911 is just slightly better than the Vette in the "least reliable" category???

Sounds like it's time for another of those annoying Vette vs 911 threads we keep hearing about.

Thanks for posting.

Any report that suggets the Camry Solara 4-cylinder is remotely sporty can't be taken seriously.

That said, my 997 has had more problems than any modern car that I've owned, including a first-year Touareg that's notorious for poor reliability. But based on this forum, my car is in the minority, specifically because most issues have been related to the Tiptronic transmission.

I'd say that the JD Power & Associates survey would be a more reliable survey on reliability.

Wasn't Porsche pretty much at the top of JD Power survey last year?

...and Mini has consistently been towards the bottom. How they can be reversed here goes to further show these surveys can't be taken too seriously.

Crap I own two of the worst cars out there. 911 and 2006 X5 V8. The engine in my 911 has already been replaced so maybe it will be okay now. Who knows. I quit worrying about it. If it breaks I take it in they fix it under warranty, give me a loaner and I am no worse off. Same with the BMW. The un I have driving them when they are right far outweighs the feeling antiseptic and nutless feeling of driving a Lexus or some other non descript boring **** wagon.

Consumer Reports got it right. Overall, the Porsche is no where near the mechanical quality it used to be. I suspect it will continue to get worse as corporate tries to further expand it's brand to the masses. Although I have had no major problems with either of mine, I know too many that have and I, for one, will not be buying another until quality takes a drastic turn for the better.

JDP has more than one survey. Porsche scored #1 on the latest Initial Quality Survey, which only measures the number of problems reported in the first 90 days. They have scored consistently well down in the pack in the other JDP survey for long-term problems. The way I interpret this is that Porsche cars typically are delivered with few issues straight from the factory, but develop them over time, well after the first 90 days has passed. Plus, Porsches aren't driven nearly as much as most other makes are, so it takes longer for problems to develop and to be noticed and reported by their owners.

I find it difficult to believe they can credibly rank the 2007 cars' reliability as we're only 2-3 months into the model year. It says "best and worst predicted reliability based on Consumer Reports survey research". Predicted reliability based on survey research?? Stupid.

Even if it's right, who cares? Reliability is but one measure of a car. Just ask Ferrari.

If automotive novocaine, or if you please automotive sensory deprivation, I.E. LEXUS, is the price you must pay in order to have a reliable car, then count me out!
I take all of these surveys with a large grain of salt. I find most of them meaningless and not related to my experience in ownership.

I agree about Lexus being the equivalent of automotive novocaine, but it escapes me why the German manufacturers can't replicate the reliability of the Japanese. I long for the day when the German makes are as reliable, if not more, than the Japanese makes, because lord knows there's nothing worse than a boring car.
