here is the complete press release from XM:

Porsche Selects XM as Exclusive Satellite Radio Provider Under New, Long-Term Agreement
ATLANTA and WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Porsche Cars of North America, Inc. and XM Satellite Radio today announced a new long-term agreement to equip Porsche vehicles for the U.S. market with XM, the nation's leading satellite radio service. The arrangement begins in 2007.

XM has been available as a popular factory-installed feature for Cayenne models since 2005 and will be the exclusive satellite radio option in the future. Under the new agreement, XM will also be available for other Porsche models in the future. Consumers who purchase a Porsche vehicle with XM receive a complimentary three-month subscription to the service.

In addition to XM's primary service of 170 digital radio channels of commercial-free music and premier sports, news, talk, and entertainment, XM will also develop satellite-delivered data services for Porsche vehicles. These services are expected to include the advanced XM NavTraffic real-time traffic data service which is now available in 44 major markets nationwide.

"XM has the technology and content that is consistent with Porsche's commitment to providing our customers the best possible driving experience," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, President and CEO, Porsche Cars of North America. "We are very pleased to be expanding our partnership with XM."

"Porsche is renowned for performance, quality, engineering, and innovation, and XM is proud to be a part of that tradition as we extend our partnership with one of the world's great brands," said Nate Davis, President and COO, XM Satellite Radio. "The fact that Porsche is offering XM exclusively is a testament to the quality of the programming we offer and our leadership in advanced technology. It underscores our company's position as the leading provider of satellite radio for the automobile market, as well as the overall leader in the satellite radio industry."

I have XM and Sirius. I like Sirius better!
I hate how my favorite XM channel has commercials. What's the point of paying for radio if you have commercials?

Let's hope XM is still around by the end of 2007.
Anyone looking at their financials would have pulled the plug by now. At the rate they're signing up new subscribers and not retaining old ones, it doesn't look like any successful business plan I've ever seen.

Does that mean a retro-fit for the 06 should be fairly easy you think?

I certainly hope so. I'd sooner put OEM XM into my car than a hugely overpriced 3rd-party iPod adapter.

Default Porsche nixes Stern and Sirius

Oh well, there goes SIRIUS!

Even though I have it in my 997 C2S via a Cayenne kit, it sure would have been nice to see the SIRIUS kit as well.

At least I can pull new cable once the new XM kit comes avalible. I wonder how well the new antenna will be? The current one due to it's location gets drop-outs quite often.

Let's hope SIRIUS buys XM!!

XM has better country and Sirius has better rock. It depends on what you like. Sirius did away with with it's folk channel, while XM has several different channels that cover that genre. Plus XM has the Bob Dylan show which he is really good at being the DJ.

And you can probably tell how old I am from this post.

I thought both of them came out with a box that would allow you to switch from one service or the other using your existing equipment.

Hmm so would you guys say 1) wait for the XM kit and retrofit to come out for my 05 997 C2 OR 2) go ahead and get the Cayenne Mod done for Sirrus and modify later as necessary?

If you want SIRIUS then go with #2

I have it, it does work! Only problem is drop-outs now and then, but better to have that then using some external device!

I'm just wondering what the new antenna is going to look like and where they are going to place it? Current location is under windshield wiper cover. It's in a low spot. It has the outputs for NAV, SAT and RADIO.

There is a very detailed thread on the install within this forum! Pics and all!!

Deanski

I have the Sirius kit. I played with the location under the front cowling and finally found a spot where I get virtually no drop-outs.......

Hmm, that might be a tough one. I will see if I can try it this weekend. I do not have the antenna attached to the cowling, I have it pushed in under it, so If I take the cowling off, it will ruin the position........... At worst, I will measure where it is located and post.

Maybe just use an Avery colored dot to show location. My antenna is in the original location under the cowl. Maybe one day I'll have to tweek the location up/down and see what happens.

Thanks,
