997.5 Facelift or 998 ? pics

These are some newer photos, but pics of these changes have been around for months now, and have generated a great deal of speculation regarding the questions you've asked. The rear and front lights are LED.
Bottom line is, nobody knows (yet).
If you search here and at rennteam.com, you'll find plenty of discussion . . .

The LED's are supposed to be all the rage going forward (pardon the pun), and they allow designers to do stuff they couldn't previously for packaging reasons. Price is supposed to drop over the next few years also.

how could they call that a "998" - I can barely see any changes. And the 998 is what, a 2010 model.

Seeing such subtle cosmetic changes makes me think that it is better to keep get another 997 of the current stock as soon as the face lift is released! I would rather a discount on the current look than a few cosmetic changes. HOWEVER, if the changes are also mechanical - more power etc then I would be tempted since my car is almost 17 months old and I always change them after 24 months.
In Tokyo, new cars are the thing and when a new model is introduced the discounts on the old models are mind boggling! At the moment a MB E320 is being offered with a US 20,000 discount! a BMW 330i is at least US 10,000.
I got a brand new 996 in September 2003 with a US 15,000 discount - I knew the 997 was coming out but needed a car since I had just moved to Tokyo.

I've read a few rumors here and there about this mid-model update. Somebody posted 18 HP increase was expected. Does anyone have any sense on "when" this might happen if it does? I'm not at all familiar with Porsche when it comes to refresh cycle... It would be interesting to know if it were near-term or a year off (considering I just ordered). Yes, I would still enjoy my 07, but if I were to wait just a few months and enjoy a few goodies...

What changes .... ?
I've looked at the photogs that were posted here. I'm sorry, but I can't really see much here. Looks like a 'stock 997' to me. Maybe a glass o'wine too much, eh? Or ...
Perhaps someone can enlighten me about the changes. LEDs aside.
I gotta tell ya, showing any changes in a photog on a car other than a silver vehicle is pretty worthless IMO. That's why they have all the 'spy cars' in BLACK. Dark colors show very little detail and are extremely difficult to photograph since light is absorbed by the dark paint. Or so I'm told.
So, please ... someone let me know what I'm looking at in these photogs.
Thanx.

The rear tail lights are clearly a different shape.
Other than that it doesn't look all that much different...therefore I would doubt that this is the next 911 model...simply just a few changes to the 997.

ELUSIVE ...
Yeah, I see the subtle changes to the rear tail lights. (after I looked at a photog of the present car in a brochure) The changes are not all that obvious, but ... I guess I see the BMWesq 'up turned' rear lamps.
I prefer the older style lamps. They seem to integrate with the back end of the car better than some 'new curvy deals'.
But, that's just my opinion.
However, if they do add 15 more ponies to the 911 ... I think that is a good thing. And .... ahhh ... I'll over look the stupid up turned tail lamps. Altho, I don't care for them a great deal, but more hp is always welcomed.

forget the tail lamps, 10-15 more HP is nice but not earth shattering. if they want to increases sales - get the DSG transmission in there. Leave the Tip for the cabrios.
