Default Start-up burble

My 'S' makes a real out-board engine burble on start-up. This only lasts for a minute or so and then the engine note settles to it's normal level. I mentioned this to my dealer shortly after taking delivery and was assured that this was OK. But I'd really like to know the mechanics behind this; is it a cold-start baffle or something to do with the variocam? Can anyone help?

My 997S makes a gurgling noise immediately after the engine is started. Not sure if its' the same noise as you are describing, but it goes away after about a minute. I have no idea what causes it, or whether this is a problem. I am planning on calling my dealer to see if this is normal.

Probably just the air pump which runs for about 1 minute after a cold start.

Mine has always done that. To me it sounds like water in the exhaust.

Air pump......? What's the air pump?
This sounds more like a baffle- or perhaps a catalytic convertor-bypass on start up.
I like the woofle, woofle too but would like EVEN MORE to know what mechanism is kicking in/out to cause it.
You wanna Harley, BlueJay, go buy a Harley.

Whad'ya mean, "go buy a Harley?" I was referring to my UNCLE Harley, on my wife's side. He makes that sound when the mood, and the meal, suits him.

Oh gee, sorry, BlueJay.

Maybe he ought to get his air-pump checked over? Next time your Aunt on your wife's side takes him for a service, ask her to get his baffle re-configured.

I think its just cold cats. When I fire up at night to go home in the underground parking under my high-rise office, with PSE, I usually give it a little extra gas - love to hear the monster coming to life!

Seems normal. When I first bought my car my dealer assured me that this is the way the car sounds when brand new and will eventually dissipate. He was right. As I continued to drive the car and broke it in the cold start burble was less noticeable. Don't worry your car will be fine. And if you want to add a better sound on start up get the Evo air intake along with PSE. It sounds incredible.

I love that sound. The engine sounds like I have my neighbor's X-51 installed with PSE. Such a beautiful noise........

Unfortunately, it goes away in 15 seconds or so.
