My 996 does that automatically without needing an add-on control module.

I think the 997 does too - I think he was pointing that out.

Will the remoteKEY work in a cab or do I need to purchase the smartTOP? I am not interested in most of the TOP features.

Looking at the website, it looks like for us that have the Cab, we need to get the smartTop in order for us to operate the top remotely. BIG price difference.

the remotekey for 997 coupe should work in a convertible too. of course without the top-control features. the 997 coupe and convertible use the same technology.

please check this information with the manufacturer, as i am only involved in the porsche technology and not in the products of this company

Let's see if I can answer a couple of questions.

First with regard to being unsure if your car is locked or not so you hit the regular remote lock again and if you actually unlock it it will auto relock in a few minutes. Sure extra button presses and hoping the auto relock works could solve that one item but I can tell you from experience it is MUCH nicer to press the key once, hear the chirp and be done with it, with no second guessing. Besides this is only one of the features, let me post the complete list for you (taken from their site)

Plug and Play: can be installed by anyone in about 30 minutes.
No soldering - No permanent changes to the vehicle!

Remote window control: Easy one-touch comfort operation of windows with
the original remote on all models (US and Euro) by holding down the
power-locks button. No extra remote fob or reprogramming of the key or
car is necessary!

The "Lock-In" feature locks the doors once the car starts moving. In
contrast to the original Porsche feature which can only be enabled or
disabled at the dealership, this feature is user-programmable and even
better, optionally the doors also unlock when the engine is switched off
and the key removed.

Home light XL: The Headlights can be activated for 30 seconds at any
time by tapping the trunk button on the remote twice. Tapping the button
twice again before the time runs out will switch the lights off immediately.

Trunk button delay: Prevents accidental opening of the trunk in most
cases. If activated, the trunk can only be opened by holding down the
trunk button on the remote for longer.

Chirp on lock/unlock: If activated, the alarm horn will give brief
"chirp"signals when locking/unlocking the car.

Auto-Tilt function for the passenger-side mirror on reverse gear. A
great addition for cars without seat-memory.

Passenger window auto-up fix for all cars where the window will only
roll up automatically once it is past half way. Usually found on 997 Coupes

User programmable: All features can be individually enabled or disabled.
Some also allow different personal preferences to be set. All settings
are retained even if the car battery is disconnected.

Shop/Diagnose mode: The chip can be set to be completely passive, as if
it was not installed at all. It becomes "invisible" and will not
interfere with any dealer diagnostic tools.

With regard to the install time their site says 30 minutes, the Cayman guys say 15-20, 30 if you take your time. How much will someone charge to do it? I don't know depends on your mechanic I guess but if they charge you more than 30 minutes labor ask them why.

How will I contact you when the group buy ends? Via this website, I will post the group buy deadline as soon as I get it from Sven, tentatively it is 2 weeks from when I first posted. Then whatever number of people are in the group buy at that point Sven will issue a code # good for the discounted price. Sven will get a list of everyone's screen names from this topic thread and as orders come in people are supposed to list their screen name in the comments field of their order form. They will match up names to orders and after week post any outstanding names for issue resolution. Shortly thereafter product ships out to everyone. If you look at the Cayman Club site (link in first post) you can see how they did it and their products are shipping right now, expect our group buy to be about the same in function. Whether or not we get to 80 or 90 people like they did remains to be seen, the target is 70 for full/max discount. We are at 25 or 26 currently, not there yet but a good start!!! Spread the word to other places please!

speaking of, I think if would be OK to stay within Rennlist but also post in the Cayman/987 boards, since the part is the same. That would open it up to more folks who may not frequent the 997 boards. What do you think?

thanks!
