Default Porsche 997 Trivia

Latest trivia I have learned is that the engine area light (when the deck lid is opened) DOES finally go out by itself over time. (And no, the bulb did not burn out).

So, if you leave the decklid open over a long time it will eventually go out.

Any other subtle trivia we're learning about these cars?

I have learned there is an automatic front lid release mechanism. It is triggered by dropping the key into your pocket. Pop! Very convenient

I think it's a battery saver feature - shuts off any lights left on after about 2 hours - see page 255 in the owner's manual -they call it "load switch-off".

I went on vacation at the end of August and was gone for 8 days. I was afraid my battery might drain, so I popped the trunk so I could get to the battery for a jump when I returned if needed.

I observed the same thing you did. It works fine now.

It's pretty easy to open the truck-lid if the battery is dead by hooking up the jumper cables to the fuse box. That was the first lesson learned when I thought that the headlights were auto off when I brought it home for the first time.

If you have the battery charger that uses the cigarette lighter, the process is even easier.
