Default Clear Bra

I am the proud new owner of a '07 997 S Cab and was thinking about installing Clear Bra to help with the South Florida Roads. Anyone's thoughts or suggestions?

Congrats!
I live in the Reno/Tahoe area and have clear bras on all of our cars. A necessity here. I won't own a car without one now. My '06 S has coverage on the entire front bumper, headlights, running lights, mirrors, hood and above the windshield. I can scrub it all with a soft brush if need be and not scratch the stuff.
Make sure you look at a sample of a finished product before you have someone do it. Not everyone is good at the installation...I learned the hard way on my first go around with a Mercedes. Bra was somewhat crooked and did not cover all the way out to the edges. Out here the cost ranges from about $600 to $800 to get a great clear bra installed.
Good luck with it!

The clear bra was my first mod. It works, so get it.

I have the 3M clear bra and am VERY glad I've got it. My car is not even a couple of months old and it's already saved the paintwork from a major stone chip. The plastic held up well and did its work.

What color is the car? The clear bra looks good on a light color car. Doesn't show up as much. It shows up alot on dark colors. Not sure I like that look. Also my dealer told me they tend to yellow with age. Just my 2 cents. If you teflon coat the car the dealer warrenty is five years against bugs, acid rain. Good luck and congrats

Drove the car right from the dealers to the Clear Bra installer. Now they can do the entire hood, which I recommend.

Wax it and the little buggers will come right off.

Yes, I too have a clear bra or paint film on my C2S. Worth every penny!

Some films will become a bit tacky when warm or hot in the sun, so if you use a MF towel, the fibers may stick to it. Wait for it to cool for any cleaning.

Also, use a cleaner such as Plexus on the film. Stay away from wax as most contain yellow carnuba and can yeloow the film in time. You're better off with a very clear sealant like Rejex, Zaino, Meguiars #21, FK1, etc for film protection.

If you do wax, use some painters tape to cover the edge or it will get into the edges leaving a clear line and become difficult to remove and run the risk of picking up the film edge.

Just washing my cars yesterday - man I could NOT imagine the Boxster or 997 with out the clear bras - they have really saved the hoods...

The Cayenne and Audi for some reason don't suck up the rocks like the Boxster and Club Coupe...

Plexus on film works better than wax.

Agree 100% with Cluttermonkey above - make sure you see the finished product of your installer. If I had seen competitor's results I wouldn't have used my current installer.

When it comes to paint protection film, clarity makes a whole lot of difference. The standard 3M and Avery films have quite a bit of orange peel texture that makes the film stand out especially on darker colored vehicles. We are also an Avery dealer and the film works fine, but it is really designed to help w/ the general market installer where the orange peel does hide quite a bit of installation flaws that would normally show up w/ the clearer films.

For the most part, we have become quite proficient at using the clearer films (3M Aerospace / Venture), which are as clear as they come....just be sure to take a look at the work in person and assess whether the install is for you.

For those local to us, we will be displaying at the Danville D'elegance on October 1st....one black Carrera GT we wrapped entirely and a Stradale. Feel free to drop by and take a look at the possibilties when it comes to true clear paint protection.

My clearbra guy recomended waxing the film, so that the same amount of UV light penetrated the bra. His point was that if you didn't wax the bra, more UV light would enter the bra areas and possibly cause the paint to look different when the bra was removed. Any thoughts?

Film does not have any UV protection. Most waxes also do not have UV protection. There's only a few that do offer UV protection.

You can treat the film almost like any paint as long as you do not use any polish or cleaner wax etc.

On the other hand, some sealants do offer UV protection. Zaino has UV inhibitors in it. 303 does as well.

I have the 3M clear bra on my 997 and my Mercedes. I wouldn't go without it. Just last weekend a friend of mine with a CLS55 Mercedes with clear bra was struck by a piece of wood on the highway. His 3M clear bra saved his paint. He is a now very happy I talked him into the 3M clear bra. Need I say more.
