Default Radar detector

I am considering purchasing a radar detector. I guess I'm not willing to spend what it takes to have one integrated into the car, and wondered if mounting one on the windshield with cords hanging all over the place is a pain in the rear for the user. Any thoughts you have on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hard wiring a V1 with a remote display will cost you peanuts compared to the ticket. Hard wire and you can still transfer the V1 from vehicle to vehicle without any problems. The cords hanging all over the place make the interior of the car look like Freddy Kruger meets Tiny Tim at a hair styling party...

Search within the Rennlist for a V1 installation,--as least you can hide the wires and keep that level of intrusion to a minimum.

Agree with Dan.

Have a shop hardwire the V1 into the electrical system. My place charged a little over $100 for the install. It's discrete and easy to remove from the windshield for times when security is questionable. Very clean.

As Dan mentioned, there's an excellent post on hard wiring the V1 - with step by step pics. Don't remenber it off hand, but a quick search should find it.

I hard wired my Passport 8500 per the instructions on this board. It took all of about 20 minutes and works great.
I think you do need to have the rain sensing wipers so that you have the correct wires to tap into, but I think all recent 997s have this as standard.

I have rain sensing wipers but chose to directly wire the V1 directlly iinto an open slot in the Fuse Box it is extremely easy. Hiding the wires is also very easy.

Truly an easy job. After I bought a piggyback fuse, it took < 10 minutes to install and hide the wire. You need a 2 conductor cable with a phone jack on one end for a V1.
