Get the X51 package if you can, I did (two times) and you can definitely tell the difference!

I have tracked both as well, the 997 S X51 comes close to the perfect car! (IMO)

The downside is that there are very few 997 X51s around, due to the factory hold earlier this year, so try and verify all opinions expressed.

Hi Rolf

I was thinking that as the 997S is sportier version of the 997 - and in some circumstances, the latter could be a more suitable car as a daily drive.

i.e. softer suspension in the 997 makes it more comfortable at legal road speeds.

get the S, even if you get one wiht no options. most porsche options are useless anyways.

I went with the base and not the S for several reasons;

- I wanted the additional few mm of ground clearance in the base model without PASM
- I did not think the bump in power would be noticeable in daily driving
- I preferred the black calipers given my color and wheel choices
- I thought the 18" wheels would give a better ride
- I could spend the money I would have spent on the S to get more options

Can't disagree with the previous statements. Take the time to evaluate what options you get in the "S" vrs the base. See how may you'd end up with if you bought the base. I think you'll find the actual difference is less than you think.

That said I wanted many of the additional options including increased HP, larger wheels and red brake rotors. I don't plan to track my car and I use it as a daily driver. I'm very pleased I went with the "S".

Get a 997 now, put the money away, and get a Turbo later. That's what I hope to do.
