Don't let anyone tell you any different--color is a big factor in resale and so it the transmission type. White tips are the hardest to move (turbo aside). Some will moan about this comment, but check with the dealer and they'll tell you which models and colors. THey know they can sell that car relatively fast so don't feel compelled to reduce the price much. Watch if you pick another color that's not quite so hot, the price will drop more. Don't bellieve me, check it out.

Sounds like he is rying to sell you a car (just happens to be a base model) that was spec'd in "oops" mode and they is the "car for you" in their eyes.
Wood trim in a 911? Come on.

Get a used 997S in the 70s. Great cars, and pasm is fantastic for the street. Find full leather if you can. My 997S launch car with 9k should be for sale at Ferrari of Houston, I know for a certainty you can get it for 70k.
(FYI, launch cars came with PCCBs, full leather, nav, adaptives, autodim, bose, and other stuff)

Just how would the standard Carrera be a better daily driver than the S model ?

No matter what you get you're always going to want something more. If you get the S, you'll wonder what the X51 package would have been like, or the PCCB brackes, or the aero kit. Do some thinking about what you really intend to do with the car and get what best suits you and I guarantee you'll enjoy driving whatever you get S or not.

I'd go for the C2S, but you won't go wrong with either really.

whatever you do, do NOT get the x51 package. It is the single largest waste of money that Porsche offers.
I have tracked both an S and and S x51 and my lap times were identical in multiple sessions. I've also tracked an S with another x51 and even on straights I was dead even with the x51.
HUGE waste of cash.
You can't go wrong with the base or the S. If driven properly on street or road environment, you won't be able to tell much of a difference.
In my opinion anyways.
