Default Typical mileage - new car, during break-in, daily driver.

This is a question mostly for you new owners, and particularly if your p-car is a daily driver. What kind of mileage are you getting? What model (C2, C2S, etc.)?

My last car was an '03 C2 with 13k miles. I had it for 6 months and 6k miles, over which I averaged around 19 mpg as a daily driver. Prior to that, I had an '05 MINI Cooper S which I owned for 16 months and 17k miles over which I averaged 20.5 mpg as a daily driver (I have a heavy foot).

We now have our '07 C2S and it is our daily driver. The wife and I work together, so we only drive 1 car a day. I expected a little lower mileage since a) it is still in break in, b) has the 3.8 instead of 3.6, and c) is new so I tend to have my foot in the gas whenever possible. What has surprised me is HOW much lower the mileage is. The last 2 tanks got me around 200 miles each at an average of around 14.2 - 14.4 mpg. Is this common, and what have some of you C2S owners gotten mileage up to for a daily driver?

Disclaimer: I'm not asking because I'm concerned. I didn't buy this car because its an economical family wagon. I'm just curious to see what I can expect on the future.

Default Typical mileage

I've been driving my 997 C2S as a daily - commute about 15 miles each way each day plus buzzing about evenings/weekends on English country roads. My commute is not through towns so not much stop/start but quite a lot of slow corners. Not wide open US-style stuff. But even with regular blasts to 6-7000rpm on the straight bits and freeways and wringing its neck whenever the opportunity presents, my computer has hovered between 25,0 and 25,8 mpg over the past three months (now about 7,500 miles on the clock). It's amazed me; if I include some feeeway driving (we can cruise at 85mph here without being hassled) as well, I regularly get 280-310 miles/tank of 97octane.

Don't forget our UK gallons are 20% bigger than their US ones, so 25mpg here is only 21 in the US. I'm getting at worst 20mpg (17 US) and at best 29mpg (24 US). The best is at 70mph on a long run and the worst is heavy right foot with some high-speed stuff (C2S with manual gearbox). Berkshire, UK.

Smile 2006 C4

My car is about 1 month old. I am getting 19.8 MPG with about 2,500 miles on the car. Just a little less than my 03 M3, but I have been pushing it pretty hard the last 500 miles.

I'm averaging around 19 mpg and I do 75% highway, 20% suburban roads/expressways , 5% city with a little over 4000k miles on the clock. The first 1000 miles on the car I only had about 15mpg though.

I've been told that your milage will go up gradually and peak when you hit around 10k miles.

06 997S Cab
currently 2500ish miles

During long break-in drives: low 20's, approx 22-23 for hwy driving. Highest tank was 24.6 but I think the high altitude had something to do with that.

Current avg: 18.0 mpg
I work non-standard hours so if it was a daily driver I don't think the mpg would be much different. I see no rush hour traffic. Car is 3rd vehicle for leisure driving only - fun drives just to drive as well as going out to eat, some shopping, errands, etc. Just an hour ago I was trying to find an excuse to drive somewhere.

***edit: I forgot to mention that you might want to check your tire pressures. That can easily account for 3-4mpg on many cars.

I'm getting 20.8 pretty steadily. There's obviously something wrong with you car if you're getting that poor a gas mileage. You need to get rid of it ASAP. I'll take it off your hands for $65k.

15-16mpg, 80% city, 20% highway. Like Chip, I have seen 26mpg at 80mph continuous in 6th, so I think that all of my problems lie with my right foot... and my general inability to shift out of third gear at 55mph. <g>

I just filled with gas and put 50 miles of (intermittent) spirited driving on the car. I averaged 13mpg, so I think I know how you've been driving your car.

I have an '06 C2 that I use as a daily driver, and I drive a lot. In about 3 months, I have more than 5K miles on it. Although I digress, let me first state that the car has been perfect. Wonderful friggin' machine. Back to the point, however, I average between 21-22 mpg, but that includes mostly highway miles. I'd say the worst tank I've had is in the 19's and the best tank is in the 24-25's.
