Clear Side Markers 2007 Build Your Porsche
In playing with the build your own - I noticed that all 997 models have clear side markers. Is this change being made on US cars or is this just the generic (world) picture.

so long as the bulb ignites amber its perfectly legal.
www.hoen-usa.com/997.htm shows Euro markers with amber bulb for reference which are legal in the USA.

I have clear ones on my car
It was imported from the US and was a used car (2500 miles), I don't think that the previous owner changed them.

The clear lenses do not comply with
U.S. Federal Lighting Guide (FMVSS 108) SAE Standard J592e
Side marker lamps:
On each side—1 red as far to the rear
as practicable, and 1 amber as far to the front as practicable.
Reflex reflectors:
On each side—1 red as far to the rear as practicable, and 1 amber as far to the front as practicable.
The clear lenses do not reflect Amber (Amber Reflex Reflectors), and are Illegal in the USA per the code.

My local dealer has a policy of swapping to Euro/clear lenses for free on all new cars. Most cars, particularly Gray, Silver and Black will get them when they are prepped before going on the lot. I even had a black Boxster service loaner than had the clear corners on it.

MJones,--thanks for looking that up. For so long I have read about owners changing these over,--sort of like what we used to do on the 1974-1989 911 taillights,--red to yellow. I just didn't realize that the switch is technically illegal.
Many years ago I was given a warning ticket for "improper use of fowl (sic) weather lights."
I had my fogs on along with the lowbeams (the normal configuration) during a late afternoon, to help illuiminate on onramp. Apparently the authorities didn't think that it was acceptable to have fog lights on if there was no fog. I looked it up (as you did here) and found that the way the car was wired, along with that state's statute, allowed precisely what I had done. What I didn't know until I looked it up was that I actually WAS permitted to run with JUST fogs (would take some rewiring) at dusk and later if the weather was a factor. Forewarned is forearmed.

oh, clear markers dont reflect anything either, they are signals dont forget, thus do not fall under your regulation posted.
Reflectors per se can be found, for example, on the E63 AMG front clip, they are not signals, those are in LED form in the side mirrors. The reflectors are just that.
Another example is the E46 M3, it has signals AND amber reflectors The signals are clear from the factory. Porsche ones are DOT legal. Turn the clear one over and the DOT stamp is right on it

The regulation is very clear!
The Porsche amber lenses comply as both amber side marker and amber reflex reflector.
Change out the Porsche ambers to clear and the amber reflex is gone and therefore not in compliance with FMVSS 108.
There is not a car sold in the US that does not have both.

I have to say that my wife's BMW has clear markers as original equipment and my new Lexus IS350 does not even have side markers. I think technically that the side light canno be a white light so as not to blind people from the side. This may even be dubious because some of the new MB and BMW have a halogen light the comes on when the steering is turned for a left or right turn below a certain speed.
Is the light bulb in the amber clear or amber like the clear?
