Do NOT let your PS2s wear down to the cords
After having the rears replaced at 18,250 miles, the car is like an entirely new car. Not only is the turn-in noticeably improved but the ride is far more comfortable and less prone to bump steer.
For the past few thousand miles, I thought the H&R springs were the cause of my handling woes and it was my rear tires which appeared to have some remaining tread.
Don't make the same mistake I did. Keep your tires fresh. I've never owned a car quite so affected by the tire wear.

No Sh*t - 18k on PS2s? I'll bet they were totally trashed. I'll be lucky if I make it to 10k.
Ian, I'll bet your fronts aren't in great shape, either... the heat cycling will kill them, even if they don't look as bad as the rears.

Well I had about 7500 miles when I got a screw in the rear tire. The tire place stated it was too close to the edge to repair, so I replaced it. I asked him about replacing the other rear, and after taking some tread measurements he stated that there was no need, as there was 7-8000 miles tread left. Pirreli are the one I have (imagine that, a tire place recommending NOT to change the tire, I guess that makes me trust him).
My 1998 Boxster had ~28 000 miles on the odo, and I never replaced the tires. The lease company measured the tread remaining at the end of the lease and it was still within limits (though close to needing to be replaced). Those were Michellins.
I am not passive at the wheels, but I do not spin the tires. I take turns aggressively. The roads here are excellent and that may be helping?

Sorry to derail real quick but can you swap left/right rear tires due to the camber and uneven wear? I would assume no because the tread pattern is not symmetrical.

You guys must not be driving very hard if you're getting 10k out of PS2's. FYI almost all modern directional tires only matter when it is wet out. I know RA1's and S03's can be run in the dry "backwards" without issues.

I agree with the others here - 18,000 miles is A LOT on PS2's. I've got 4600 miles on mine and after a skills event and a track day I'm about 50% down already. I'm hoping I can just make it to 10,000!

18,000 for the rear!!! Holy cow. Are you going down hill most of the time at 20MPH???
I got 4k on mine and it is almost 1/2 gone.
Autocrossed my car last month, and 80% of the front tires are gone
