Default To Paint or not to Paint

Greetings,

New to the list and already need some help, please. I have a three week old Seal Grey 06’ 997 Cab. Just noticed a factory paint defect (raised three inch hair line on rear corner of bumper cover). Porsche says they can take off cover, sand and re-spray (EMC over in Fremont, CA). Should I get the work done or just live with the imperfection? Since its so new, and its only the plastic cover, I am leaning towards having them re-spray, but, don’t like the idea of re-painting a new car. Thanks in advance for the help. Will post pics of car shortly. Dan

Rear bumper right? It's probly okay since EMC does a great job.

If it's the front bumper, I would not do it clear bra can lift repainted bumper when removed..

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, right rear and good to hear that EMC is great - you see any downsides to getting it done?

Regards,
Dan

A 3 inch defect would not sit well with me. If the painter is good, and it appears you have confirmed it, and the dealer is honoring the repair, I wouldn't hesitate to get it fixed. Good luck and please report back on the fix...

Leave it alone...Factory paint is always the best!

Just drive the car!

I went to EMC to get an estimate for my friend's MB a few months back. I saw at least six or seven wrecked Porsches there. Some of them didn't even have the plate yet.

BTW, my friend's insurance picked a cheaper shop.

Do you have a pic of the defect? I wouldn't recommend EMC as well as I've seen their work before and as mooty pointed, mediocre at best.

Thanks for all the feedback. Tried to take a pic - it doesn’t pick up imperfection - guess that says something in itself. I am going to leave well enough alone and get them to toss in services or something to ease the pain.

This seems to be a more and more common issue - paint defects... makes one wonder about Porsche's quality...

they are also plunging on the JD power quality surveys...

I would challenge your statement above regarding that "they are also plunging on the JD Powers quality surveys..."

Please read this link, USA Today Porsche Tops JD Power Satisfaction Survey :

The USAToday report from 6/30/06 goes on to state:

Porsche leads in all areas that matter most in the study including exterior styling, driving dynamics, and engine and transmission. The brand was helped by its quality, which ranked No. 1 in J.D. Power's initial quality survey.

This report was published less than two months ago. Can you provide us any objective evidence to support your comment, or anything that has materially changed in the last 42 days?
