Cingular & option 666

Picked up my car a couple of weeks ago with GSM module option. I took out the SIM card from my razr and inserted in slot, NOTHING. Dealer told me to talk to my carrier, Cingular. Next day I go to Cingular explain the situation and leave with an additional number and new SIM card. I've read in past posts that if it works in the phone it will in the module. No luck it doesn't work. Cingular can't help me, reason being they did not sell me the phone, and the dealer blames the carrier. Has anybody experienced anything similar?

A couple of quick thoughts. When I got my car, the phone would turn on but would get stuck on 'searching for Network'. The phone was able to read the sim car 'phone book loaded'. However the problem was that the dealer did not prep the phone for North America, as it was set to Europe, so it was not able to pick up a network, hence no dial tone, and also, the 911 feature did not work.
1. When you turn on the car does the phone 'initialize'
2. If it does initialize, you should be able to dial 911 (SOS key) and hear the phone ring.
If that works then the car's phone is working OK.
3. If your handheld phone works with the SIM card, but the cars cell phone does not, does it even read your phonebook on the SIM?
There was a thread last year about an issue with the newer 64K cards being an issue whilst the older 32K cards were not. However I think most people have not been having problems with the newer cards (I have Cingular and after they reset the phone to North America, no problem). If your dealer has never seen option 666 (like mine never did) they will not know how to activate the phone.
Hope this helps.

I have Cingular and it works fine. Your phone module should accept both 16 bit and 32 bit SIM cards. See here for more information:

I have Cingular and it works great. Try another SIM card, make sure it is the latest version they have and it should work fine. Also, you may wish to have the selling dealer use their computer to see if the phone is set up correctly in your car. I had the same problem in my car, after the dealer did the diagnostics along with the newer SIM card, the phone worked flawlessly.
In fact, it works better than any hands free system in any car I have ever owned.
Good luck!

Last option is to try a 32 bit card. Cingular no longer has them, but you can find them on E-bay for 0.99, (plus $5 for shipping). They are blank cards, and there were some issues with regional coding (east coast cards will not work on west coast, etc, but most of the vendors will let you know if they will work everywhere or not). These are the full credit card sized cards with the cut out Sim in it. If the T-mobile works, and not the cingular, it may be the ENS issue with the newer SIM cards.
