Carmon red went from $825 on 06 to $3,065 on 07. Is it the same paint? What gives?

Porsche marketing.

Lotus charges extra for plain old non-metallic black (but they gave it a fancy name!).

Don't think its an error.. Seal grey is gone for 07 and meteor grey is in, if you want seal grey you pay the 3-4 grand for custom or color to sample.

Carmon was a color I was considering but chickened out I never owned a red car and got cold feet !

According to the P-car configurator, Lapis Blue moved from the "Metallic Colors" group ($690) to the Special Colors group ($3,070). Cobalt Blue went the other way, and is now in the "Metallic Colors" group ($690).

Carmon red isn't really a 'red' car. Guards Red, is a RED car.

Just curious why people would hesitate on a bright color like red or yellow, is it a resale thing? An age thing? What?

Visibility thing, I think. Your car is beautiful, though... maybe too red for me. <g>

The reason why I'm thinking it might be a website error is because (1) it's still listed in the row with the other metallic colors, rather than as a special paint, and (2) in the car configurators from other countries (Germany, Canada, Japan, etc.), carmon red is priced the same as the other metallic paints, respectively; in the past, Porsche's color groups and relative prices were identical across their main global markets.

It's a prefer-to-keep-a-low-profile thing.

I think Tim is right on here. Porsche juggles the colors now and then....Cobalt is now a 'standard' color for example. I believe that there were one or two years where Speed Yellow was a 'premium' color!

Well, Tim is definitely right, and so is Kurt in stating that meteor will replace seal. The question, however, is with regard to carmon red: wrong category or wrong price? It is listed as a regular metallic color but with the special metallic color premium price.

Woaw. Check out the online car configurator. They switched it back to the 2006 MY. Last night it had the 2007 MY info.

Not too many years ago Speed Yellow was a $3,000 option. Now it is a standard color.

Arctic Silver used to be a $3000 color whereas Polar Silver was standard (in 2002 I think). I've noticed that Porsche switches colors around each year. GT Silver should come over to the cheap side in a year or two.
