I put a set of Pirelli P Nero Zero AS on my 996 on 18" staggered wheels and it does fine in the winter...or should I say did. Am about to pick up my 997 later this week and will be keeping those set of tires for winter work as I am putting my factory 17" wheels back on the 996 before parting with it. Anyway an AS tire will do well but a winter one will definately do better than summer ones. However in DC Metro Area we tend to not get too much snow but when it comes..the area (and its drivers) go into paralysis! LOL Good luck.
