Cougar Ace is sinking!!!
Slightly off topic but I know some of our cars have come over on the Cougar Ace before. I think mine did a year or two ago. This story just hit the Dow tape a minute ago. First and foremost I know we all hope the crew will be OK and they sound like they are in good hands. Secondly I hope none of you waiters have cars on this boat!!!!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)--A Singapore-based container ship with 23 people on
board was listing severely Monday and taking on water south of the Aleutian
Islands, Coast Guard officials said.
A Coast Guard C-130 plane was circling over the Cougar Ace, which sent out
an SOS late Sunday night, Petty Officer Stephen Harrison said. A Coast Guard
cutter was on its way to the site, 230 miles of the Adak in the western
Aleutians.
A merchant ship in the area also was heading to the site and expected to
arrive shortly, Harrison said.
One crew member on the Cougar Ace suffered a broken leg, according to
Harrison. There were no other reported injuries.
Harrison said the C-130 had a pallet packed with survival rafts and suits
ready to go if the ship began sinking before any ships arrived.

Saw this on MSNBC.com, doubt they're P-cars.
"The Singapore-flagged Cougar Ace was carrying 4,813 vehicles from Japan to Vancouver, British Columbia, said Beuerman. There were no reports of any cars going overboard. Beuerman said typically vehicles are securely fastened."

Yup I know some people who are having a deposit on a vehicle withheld despite finding a better deal elsewhere on an ordered car - hope the ship sinks and they get their deposit back.

Incidently, the merchant ship that passed by within arms length and assisted the Cougar Ace in distresss belongs to us (my company). I got some wicked photos of the vsl listing 80 degrees to it's side.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident

23 crew members of an Asian cargo ship have been saved off the Aleutian islands.
The US Coast Guard and Alaska Air National Guard responded after the ship began taking on water off Alaska.
The ship started listing and taking on water south of the Aleutian Islands.
The Singapore-based car carrier "Cougar Ace" was en route to Vancouver from Japan when it ran into trouble in bad weather.
The ship was carrying about five-thousand vehicles.

Now any chance they can airlift my buddy's Skyline off the ship! Oh man..he's gonna be cryin if his car's on that. R32 GT-R that he sent to a Japanese tuner to build up with a full cockpit cage/chassis re-enforcement + motor and suspension work and now the only person driving it will be Davey jones.

I wonder about the depth of that water. If that ship goes down, it would make for a hell of a new reef. I wonder if my PADI Open Water card would cover that dive?
I am kidding of course because the water must be many many feet deeper than my 130 foot Open Water certification.
