Default Track my 997 C2

I live in Western NC. I'm looking to track my car, one with a long enough straight to get the 997 to it's top speed - any ideas?

i doubt there are any road couse in usa that you can get your 997 to it's top speed. most straights are way less than a mile, and in that distance, you aren't gonna get to the top speed. perhaps you can try a drag strip?

Agree with Mooty. Road America (Wisconsin) maybe. It will take a long time to get to 170 or so, and unless you got real big ones, you'll quit before the car gets there.

Have you ever gone nearly that fast in a car? It seems REAL FAST!

I agree. ou will not find a track that will let you get over 155 mph (which you'd need at least a mile for).

I sugest a visit to Germany.

One reason I did the Euro Delivery. Break in the engine and give her a little room to stretch her legs. I hope to have it out of my system now!

Damn, Tim - you'd better get out of the house... I just talked to Seal; he's packin' his AK, and he said he's headed to NC to get the dude who stole his girl...

I've gone 140 several times in my E39 M5, in that same stretch of road I went 148 in the 997 - it felt a lot more stable. Not quite enough road to get much faster.

What about VIR?

I had mine up to 150 for about......5 seconds....
My big ones got a lot smaller very quickly at that speed.
One time was enough for me.

On the fastest part of VIR the supercars are hitting 160-170 but there is NO WAY a stock 997S is going to hit that. Nor would you want to without the proper safety equipment. That is some serious speed and the difference b/t 170 and 150 is much different than the diff b/t 150 and 130. On the road courses, anything above abot 130 starts to get scary when not in a purpose built car.

I read somewhere that Brainerd Int'l Raceway in Minnesota is the 'fastest' track in terms of highest acheivable speed (i.e. longest straightaway) in America. But it sounds like you're more interested in terminal speed rather than a track experience. Try maybe an 'open road' event like the Nevada Silver State Challenge.

And please watch out for us sub-140mph slowpokes on public highways (I'm the one going 72 in the right lane).

Thanks for the info, it's a long way to go.

Not to worry, over the last 5 years I've only done 3-4 of these runs. This particular stretch of slightly down-hill four lane highway has clear visability for about 1/2 mile, not enough to get much faster than 140ish. I don't proceed until the road is clear in both directions.

Yep, the old two-mile variety dragstrip.
