So the news of the '08 is out. The cosmetic changes are minor, the built in Satellite Radio is not a big deal given the ability to install Satellite on current models by those in the know. The most significant change that I have read (if true) is the additional 20 hp.

So, if you had an '07 C4S Cab on order (going on two months now) with an expected deliver in August, knowing that 6 months later the '08 will be out with 20 aditional hp, would you hold off on taking delivery of the car and instead wait for the '08?

I have 05 C2. Am looking to move to an S. Was going to do so with an 07 but given the potential for more oomph, I have decided to wait of an oh eight.
The downside maybe pricing changes but I am already spending so more much than I ever thought I'd spend on a car that hey, what's a few more thousand?

If the wait was a year to a year and a half, I absolutely agree. What I heard, however, although not sure how true, is that the '08 is going to come out in the spring of '07, cutting the '07 model year in half.

Buy it now. You won't regret it. If you're that much in love with the "997.5" when it comes out, trade up...

So true. Cars always change. So, why stop at 08..why not 10 or 12 or....

The car is incredibly enjoyable as is. Why lose that precious time. One never knows about life.

Its like electronics...there will always be something better, faster, more memory etc. If you have a need now, get it. If not, wait.

HP differences asside, I do not think the facelift is something I would delay ordering my car for unless it was a complete redesign (996-->997). Even with HP differences you will pay for it as the MRSP will appropriately rise up, and my suspicion is that it will significantly rise up because of the currency changes (it will be a way for Porsche to justify the price increase, $1000 per Hp for example).

Facelifts can be good or bad...last year I scrambled to find a pre-facelift Audi S4 due to the ugly new snout, and right now I'm negotiating to buy a new pre-facelift MB E-class before they're all gone...the Cadillac-like pointy front end chunkier grill just don't appeal to me. These 997 spyphotos wouldn't sway me either way if I was considering a new one right now. My guess is that these will be over a year away; I doubt the new Turbo, GT3, and Targa coming in the next few months will only have half a model year with their current designs.

I guess my point is that newer isn't necessarily better (at least to me), especially if there aren't any significant mechanical differences.

Firmly in the minority here, but I'd wait for the facelift-- IF the rumor about a Spring '07 release is accurate. ...and you know with Porsche, even if true we won't hear definitive word one until April!
As for price, imo there's no way they'll increase base MSRP more than into the mid-$80s for a base 3.8 litre 997 over a one-year transition, notwithstanding +20hp and curtailment of PAG's $/e hedging.

Would your dealer object to keeping your incoming spec-ordered '07 for inventory? ....don't want to create bad kar karma in that regard either by leaving the dealer with a car they may not have otherwise ordered.

Where is this "news"? Did I miss something? 2007 options weren't confirmed until this month.
