Default I have it...

but it honestly doesn't feel all that thick. Although I loathe the standard diameter, I was disappointed to some extent when I first felt my thicker wheel. The wheel on all my previous BMWs and even my G35 Coupe was pleasantly thicker. I have relatively small hands, too. Nice smooth leather, though. The thicker wheel...not my hands.

I LOVE mine and the "smooth" leather can be seen very well in these pics. It really is a great feeling wheel so I'm very happy I got it!

I agree that it doesn't meet that my definition of thick either. The M3 wheel is what I call thick.

With that said, I think the standard wheels are embarassingly thin for a sports car (my stock Mercedes wheel is thicker) so the thicker wheel was manditory to me.

I love the smooth leather though so it is a great option to get.

BTW B-Line you can click on the review in my sig for my 2 cents on all of the options on my car.

Wow,

I love that steering wheel. I don't need no stinking buttons !!

Great write up btw Ron and thanks to all for the great pics..

It's too bad I'm actually not ordering my car, there are a few options I would have liked to have had but it's not worth waiting another year. As the Turbo comes nicely loaded, I think the sport seats (non adaptive) and the lack of park distance will be missed, but not enough to make me wait. I would also have liked the fire extinguisher, Rear Axle lock Diff and MAYBE the PCCB..

But again, I don't think I will miss those things.

If you want a thick steering wheel, buy the TechArt one...Oy...
I got one. I'm not complaining, but... it's like a freakin liverwurst tube!

I much prefer the look of the sport steering wheel, but in my opinion it's still not thick enough. In fact, I really don't like it at all. The steering wheel in my A4 on the other hand is absolutely perfect. I wish I could take that out of my Audi and put it into my Boxster.

B-line - Your car is going to be a monster. I don't think that you'll miss those options either.

Am in agreement about the thicker steering wheel. Although it would be hell not to have it, I was surprised that it was not thicker.

But, at the end of the day, I'd order it again.

Do you think it's too thick? I have one on order but it's taking forever. Ready to cancel the order. There's a thread over at 6speed with a group buy offering for another wheel that looks really nice.

I too am a bit dissappointed with the "Thicker" steering wheel. For $800, you would think they could make it a bit thicker. That said, I would still order it because the standard size is very thin.

Has nothing to do with muscle cars or what Porsche thinks a performance car should have.

Simply has to do with the size of my hands. Thicker fits my hands better.

Have to agree with Cbejbl on this, I love thicker steering wheels. My X5 4.8is comes standard with the thick wheel and it's great.
Fortunately on the turbo, a lot of the options are cheaper or standard than on a 997na. It's $310.. And sport seats are no charge.

Agree... They are not thicker, they are downright FAT. The TechArt cars I drove in Germany last year had them....

Way too fat....

My Land Rover has a thicker wheel. Come on Porsche, why cheap out on us?

Another cheap move is the plastic sun visors. I was in a Cayenne and was surprised to see it had Alcantara visors, 4 of them!
