Drive it like you just bought a $140K (4 times the median income in the US) new car. That's my suggestion.

Well then, why don't you use your search penchant and go back just to the 996 introduction about a decade ago and find threads where guys have regretted deviating from Porsche's breakin reccos?

OTOH, don't bother, the fact that this breakin issue is debated incessantly, with no such evidence of engine damage, kinda proves it.

Better yet, get the Dyno results on any engine and see what they reveal. My guess is MOST dyno-ed engines belong to serious car guys who ignore the break-in.

It's also quite odd that no clear warnings whatsoever have come from guys who have deviated from break in rules and dynoed their engines only to find out it's a bad idea to deivate from break-in rules.

Of course if your goal is to keep the car for 20 years maybe you should baby it all the way thru... .

I beg to differ, there are lots of engine problems cropping up on 993s, which are about 10 years old. So maybe those guys didn't follow break in. Anyway, what's it going to hurt if you follow the break in? Why are you anti-breakin guys so adamant about not following the factory recommended procedure? I don't get it.

Maybe the 993's that have a problem are the one's that DID follow the breakin rules and those that broke them in correctly in the first few miles are the ones still running strong?

See, assumptions can argue any side of a discussion.

What can go wrong follwing the recommended breakin? Try oil leaks from seals, burning oil, less compression, carbon buildup (993) less performance..................

The onus is on he who makes the proposition, not the one who challenges it. .... Or are you one of those idiots we keep hearing about?

Ummm, yeah, that's the point. See MMD's post.

I think they should go for a drive, but how should they drive the car. As Porsche recommends? Or rev the **** out of it?

It was an interrogative sentence, not a declarative, so your accusation is baseless. ..... You apparently saw that the shoe fits.

And you should be a supporting member of Rennlist for as many posts as you've made here. And seriously consider trying to fit in for a change, instead of behaving so much like a troll and alienating yourself from everyone here.

Heck '99P, I don't care HOW they drive them, just wish they'd stop bickering. Believe me when I say that I don't want to lose either of them as contributors...

Peace,

-don

Because of verbal words that are not benefitting any of us members..
I am now locking this thread..

-- I will let all of you know, I will take great care of breaking in my car when it becomes mine. No beating, no over revving..

And I was assured on the phone today, the manager who will be driving my car for the first 100 miles will not exceed 4000 rpm... good enough for me.
