240 degree oil temp?
My cruising oil temp is 210. When my car was newer, it would get up to 225 during hard driving. Now, with 15K miles, I get as high as 240 or so during hard driving. Changed oil 5K ago.
Do you see temps this high? Is the oil getting hotter as the car ages, or do you think I'm just pushing it more?
Thanks.

I've noticed that mine has also increased a bit. Until the last week or so it was always right around 200 no matter how hard I drove it. Recently I've noticed that it will go to about 225 when pushed hard. The car is about 3 months old and has 6,000 miles on it. Not sure, but may also just be that the weather is hotter?

My guess is as long as it stays in the middle for normal driving you're fine. Like the manual sez on page 85 about the water temp guage. It's okay for it to go up but should go back to normal (middle of guage scale) when engine load is decreased.

My radiators are totally clear. I think it is the slow speeds and the ambient temps. Water temp always sat at 175.

I have found that lately the oil temp is higher with higher revs and the summer heat. When I cruise in a higher gear on the freeway it cools down to 200. The water temp never goes above 175....

Sorry guys, but those of you who think your water temp gauge showing 175F is accurate are greatly mistaken. Try maybe 200F+ and you'll be alot closer. As a matter of fact, with a coolant temp of 175F your engine is not running at maximum efficiency.
If oil temp is accurate at 240F, then your coolant is closer to 215F+.

took my car out yesterday up the mountain, going at slow speed about 30MPH (stuck behind a truck), and the temp hit 250. Is that normal. Air temp was 95F.
It came back down to about 210 when I went down hill.

I know that the Porsche temp gauge (like the BMW's) is electronically damped - it shows an average temperature over time - but I can't imagine why it would lie... the oil temp is a better indication of engine heat rejection, I'm sure.
Where is(are) the temp sensor(s) for the dash gauge? In the block? In the front radiator?
