MMD...
Thanks for this info.
I am going to make a separate post using the emergency tire that I just got for my C4S rather than complicating this post with more part numbers etc. Bottom line is I don't think it fits in the boot!

BTW, for anyone wondering, the tire pressure for the inflatable spare is 36 psi. I just got this out of the 996 owner's manual.

Did you buy from the dealer or used parts place? Looks like the dealer, but wanted to be sure. Also, what's the total price out the door? thanks

I bought mine new from Sunset (www.sunsetimports.com): spare about 545 USD, jack 120, foam piece 35...something similar to this - all told, about 700 bucks. This said,... I think you can find these spares from wrecked cars for significantly less money. If you want it new, Sunset is probably the best price around.

The jack is kinda nice. Nicely machined and crisp and a good chunk of aluminum alloy geometry. Almost worth a us$120.

Maybe if the engineer of the jack were to have signed his/her name to it, then a "work of art" perceived value would kick in.

Just got my spare and jack + foam insert today from sunset.
Question for you guys with spares - How do you have the spare fastened down?
or is it just left loose standing up in the trunk?
also, is there any particular place the spare tire information sticker is supposed to be attached?
Thanks
George

I have driven with the spare left loose for the past year without incident. It fits nicely and stays put with a couple of medium size towels wedged in on either side of the spare.

I did purchase the Das Schild (www.daschild.com) trunk liner to add a layer of protection between the spare and the hood. I also purchased the Cargo Organizer/spare tire cover from the same place. It's great for holding the tire wrench, torque wrench, work gloves, etc.

Stickers? We don't need no stinkin stickers!

I recently bought a folding spare for my 997S, and it is p/n 996-362-020-03; don't know the significance of the last digit being 3 rather than 2. I have used it once, and it works great. The recommended pressure on the tire is higher than previously mentioned, 50 psi. As for the other parts to make a factory-like kit, I guess that's fine if one wants to spend the extra money. Mine fits fine in the front, and lying at an angle that puts it almost against the closed trunk, it's not going anywhere. When I carry it, I usually place a folded cloth on top of the tire, so it is actually in light contact and can't move. And I have a compact BMW jack kit that fits beside it, so it cannot shift laterally either.

thanks guys
I'll try the beach towel method - good for the summer at the jersey shore!
the sticker i mentioned came in an envelope taped to the spare.
looks like its supposed to go in the trunk, shows 41 psi as the correct pressure
for the spare and some warnings about speed, etc.
when I get a chance I wll post a scan of it FYI.

I have sent these part numbers for a quote to Porsche of Fairfield. This is what I got:

Spare tire- $893.52
Wheel insert- $73.09
Jack- $247.64
Mounting bolt- $18.61
Tire boot- $8.03 (I think you mean this # 996-361-521-00 rather than tire bolt)
Belt- $ 34.29

How does it sound to you?

You might do better with Sunset Porsche (Portland, OR)
