spare mounted

Here's a way to bolt the spare down. Rivet the weldment to the chassis in location indicated.

Questions
1. Where did the bracket come from?
2. What kind of a spare is it? 997? 996?

thanks!

I guess the bracket is a DIY welded fabrication

tire is from 996:
P/N 996-362-020-02

Here's what I believe you need:

996-362-620-02 Emerg tire (996)
996-722-101-00 Wheel Insert
996-721-211-00 Scissors Jack
999-571-074-30 Mounting Bolt
999-361-521-00 Tire Bolt
996-361-411-00 Belt

Dan

Double check that tire part number. My actual invoice for the tire indicates the part number is P/N 996-362-020-02.

Thanks for the info:
Is it safe to assume this kit works with 997?
What's the purpose of the tire bolt and the belt?

Yes, Porsche and PCA recommend this unit. Make sure you get the part number correct as 996-362-020-02 or at least make sure parts guy is getting the *collapsible* spare. The "regular" 996 and 986 spare will not fit easily in trunk (WILL fit over rotors, even s rotors though).

The mounting bolt is simply an aid to help align/mount the wheel onto hub so the actual bolts can be started Not really necessary but makes it easier to wrangle it.

I'm guessing that the other bolt is to screw in to hold the tire down into the 996 trunk

Thanks for the correction. I didn't have my reading glasses on!

Will price it out at the factory.

No problem, as long as the parts guy "gets it." :D

Make sure you get the collapsible spare from the 996 C4. Like an accordian, the full width of the sidewall *only* becomes apparent when fully inflated. The 996 C2 (and 986 boxster) spare is too big to be situated in trunk verticaly and must be slanted to close trunk thus using up all the room.

here's collapsible spare *before fully inflated:*

Thanks MMD, but just for clarity it will fit over the S rotors right?

Now all you need is a cover to go over it and it would look like it came from the factory that way..

Yes, both the collapsible (996 C4) spare and the regular (ill-trunk-fitting) 996/986 spare WILL fit over 997S rotors. I personally fit both on my front rotor/hub of my 997S.

Glad to help. No matter how hard car mfgrs try to ignore it, having a spare is and always will be a very good idea.

Once again many thanks, I've already started searching for a UK source.
