Will X51 997 S hold its value?
I am trying to decide on whether to get the X51 package on a new 997 S. When it comes time to resell the car will the X51 package add much resale value to the car or not?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Benf,
I think the formula is : The more you spend, the more you lose
It has to be worth it to you in smiles/mile. If you want to lose the least amount of cash, buy a basic car with the minimum options (sun roof, power seats). The rate of depreciation of the options approaches 80% over 2 years, and X51 will be no different.
The only things that depreciate worse are aftermarket performance mods, since those decrease your buyer pool and cast suspicion over the car. Those may actually have negative value, or cause you to reinstall the stock components at your expense. AS

I think they will be always have a reasonable premium over nonX51...If I were to buy a 997S second hand in a few years my first option would be a X51 car...but I would never pay full price for the option. And from the seller perspective those cars will always be easier to sell....btw, I have a regular 997S

I bought an '04 C4S cab with the X51 upgrade- it was only $11k more then. Didn't like the car- too hard riding, poor performance, not much increase in power, etc. I traded it in on my 997S after only 10 months and took a major hit. I think the X51 added maybe 2-3K but in the 996 it really didn't make that much difference, only high rpm, no increase in torque and it was more than erased by the extra weight of the awd and cab part. On the other hand, I like the power of the 997S and the extra power is icing on the cake. Ideally, I would like the GT3 without the wing...

All Porsches depreciate like crazy. (It wasn't always this way...)
Even the much vaunted CGTs have depreciated a lot and it'll only get worse now that dealers are heavily discounting brand new ones!
That said, you'll probably be able to get rid of your car a little quicker with the X51.

if you buy the car, and park it, perhaps after 20 years, you have some chance to hold value, perhaps.
none of my cars hold any value, why.... mileage. i enjoy them too much. 25k miles in one year.... even if i had a CGT or Enzo or McLaren F1, they would have become worthless. but hey, it's been driven and enjoyed.

The X51 will not hold the "premium"
Why?
There is no provision in the "guide" for this, so Dealers don't pay for it.
I have practical experience in this area.
Also,
You are going to be competing against the the GT3 and GT3 RS, so the performance "nut" will go elsewhere.
The only reason to buy an X51 is because you like the package and it suits your needs.
Having said that I loved my 03 X51, the package was a substantial improvement over the base car, even my wife noticed it when we test drove them, after the PDE. The most expensive event ever, it cost me a new 911.
I sold my X51 to buy a GT3.

Drive the thing off the lot and it's already down 10 grand.
Get what you feel comfortable getting and don't short change yourself on the options you really want. It's just a big toy!

I also agree with you, but I think you are being very kind saying only 10K down on the drive away ...
