Default 997 Targa

Anyone has the latest on when to expect 997 targa in the U.S. Market.

Also, can someone please share what kind of pricing to expect for targe 4 as compared to C4 coupe. I tried to find the price differnce in the targa vs. non targa in the previous model but could not locate the info.

I do not believe that any of the dealers are well informed on any future Porsche plans and the members of forum like this are way ahead in the information.
Thanks

It's coming soon...I stumbled upon a 997 Targa photo shoot last weekend in Italy.

See it here: http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/1067

According to Rennteam it appears that the Targa will be offered in both S and non S versions with AWD.

In terms of pricing it is normally equivalent to the convertible. So use the price for the C4 cab as a guideline.

Correct, the cars I saw were both AWD; the GT Silver "Targa 4S" pictured, and there was a Guards Red "Targa 4" in a trailer.

All I have seen is that it will be widebody only.

Will the 997 Targa be built on a cab chassis? I saw a picture in Autoweek recently and didn't see the usual roof panel joint at the C pillar...

Yes, just like the 996. The C-pillar joint is clearly visible.

Here's one of the distinct benefits of a Targa .... 2 full sets of golf clubs in the back with room to spare.....and you can still power the top back.

Thanks for pointing that out. Up until now I didn't understand why anyone would be interested in a Targa (big heavy moonroof? big deal, etc.). I didn't know it was a *hatchback* too.

Actually, the 996 and the 997 Targas are both based on the coupe, unlike the 993 version which was based on the cab. Better rigidity that way.

I'm a big fan of the Targa, but I prefer RWD, so I'm going to be a little torn if the Targa is only offered with AWD.

I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I don't think you're correct. They are all based on the cab chassis, which is a reinforced and where the extra rigidity comes from.

From what I recall, the biggest difference between the 993 and 996 was that the glass 'cassette' was mounted from the inside on the 996, which reduced leaking and squeaks/rattles

You are correct on the installation; presumably that's why the 996 (and hopefully 997) roof is less prone to squeaks and rattles than the 993.

I'm pretty sure about the coupe vs. cab basis on the 996; it was touted in the Porsche literature for the '02 Targas, which I have at home, but not here at work.

If they aren't based on the cab then why do they have that unsightly seam on the C pillar? Surely nobody at Porsche thinks that improves the aesthetics...
