Stock Shifter VS Short Shifter
I have got to admit the stock shifter is pretty good. I don't have a real strong urge to change it either. Just wondering if it is really worth the trouble in terms of performance?

The short shifter really does make a difference in terms of performance. Is it enough to convince someone who's happy with the stock shifter? That's hard to say. But I've driven both, and I love my short shifter.

I also like the stock one. For every day driving and occasional DEs it is great. Smooth.
However, if you plan on doing some track time (I do 8-10 a year), it is well worth it. It takes some time to get adjusted to it. A bit more effort in shifting compared to stock and could get bit notchy under cold weather until warmed up. I personally love it and would not have it otherwise, changing gears is quick and precise and really add some character to the whole driving experience.

O5 C2 had stock, 06 C2S has short shifter... Nice upgrade. Nothing worng with stock, but the shorter throws are much more fun. Definitely a difference. Heard some complaints of notchiness, but I have yet to have any issues and love the feel.

In the 996 and 986 heyday the stock shifter wasn't that great and alot of people justifiably "upgraded" to the B&M short shifter.
Unlike the 996, the 997 shifter has received universal praise (as a major improvement over the 996) so you might not be gaining much by changing it.

I used to have a short shifter in my other car and it was more effort to shift and a bit notchy. The stock shifter feels so flawless to me and I would never give up the feeling this shifter has to offer to shorten the throws by a little bit.

I love the B&M, that's why it's now in the BumperPlugs.com lineup!

My sales manager recommended the short shifter when I ordered my car. I drove the 987S and 997 with stock and sport shifters. I thought the stock had better "feel" than the sport option. The sales manager agreed as did an article in Excellence. I can't comment on performance advantages on a track but for a street car I prefer the stock unit from Porsche. I have never tried an aftermarket short shifter on a 997 but I loved the UUC unit I put on my M3.

I have wanted to try the short shifter but have not had a chance yet. My dealer seems to think the stock is better and when I ordered last week he ended up talking me out of it! He's a buddy, we go out for dinner etc and said he would not be comfortable with it and having sold me several Porsches over the years he is confident I would not like it... I still want to try one though....

My two cents... I started with the stock shifter and it was GREAT. Light, quick, precise. What could be better? Well, the short shifter.
Mod fever got me so I put on the short shifter... Daaaay - ammmmmn! Lighter, quicker, preciser(?).
The short shifter with the sport chrono is sport throttle mode = shifting BLISS.

I started with stock - it was nice and a big improvement over my 996, then I added the sport shifter (OEM), and I love it.
BTW, I just picked up my car from service and they performed a number of recall / work shop actions, including one related to the shift cable (don't know exactly what they did). I had complained that the first to second shift was very notchy, and they said whatever they did fixed the problem, which I think is correct, although I only drove a mile or two and wasn't really paying attention.
