Default My new 997 wont have a Nav

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

I am working on a deal for a new 2006 997 Cab... it has color combo everything I am looking for, but No Nav system. They say is is "wired" for a Nav system. Does anyone know how difficult/costly it will be to ad the system after purchase ?

Several rennlisters have installed nav. Do a forum search. I think it's about 3 K total parts and labor. Somewhat more expensive than getting it factory optioned.

Thanks Boo .. very helpful.. pretty much answered my question.

The only interiors I have ever seen of a 997 have a Nav in there.. So what is in its place in the ones without. Is there still a monitor or just a blank there?

The screen is there anyway. The screen displays info for the radio, trip computer, phone, CD etc. The buttons for nav are there. They're just not functional until you install it.

Different strokes and all that... One of the reasons I refuse to buy a 997 is the obligatory PCM screen !

I have Nav on my 997S. The factory system is not very good.

Buy and after market or use your PDA. I have a PDA with a bluetooth GPS receiver and it is MUCH better than the 997 Nav. And it's intergrated with my contacts, is portable between cars, and much easier to setup.

You're missing out on the rest of the 99% of the car.

the nav on my wifes cayenne s stinks...just buy a hand held garmin or pda with nav...much cheaper and better and save your 3k...better yet, there is always map quest before you leave the house!!!

You know, I was thinking about putting NAV in, but the 3k really chaps my rear. Knowing I'll get a sliver of that back when I sell, I'm reluctant. Any suggestions for a plug and go device that doesn't look like sht? Driving down the road with the top down and all these devices hanging all over the place. I want something clean. Thanks in advance for your input...

Dont have nav on my car either however if I keep it a long time I will buy all the bits once more 997 parts are available from salvage(written off cars),and expect the cost in a couple of years once parts are available would be around $1300

I like the Nav system. I find it very easy to use. I programmed my first destination while driving on my way home from picking up my 997 at the dealer-no instructions, no manual needed. I prefer it to having a separate device.
