Default 997 with Pzero tires

I receved my 997 S with Pzero tires. I have heard som much good about the Michellin and bad about Pzero.

Are the PZero tires better in some aspects? Or Should I just be sad for them?

Thanks
Dave

Mine also came with P Zero's, but the dealer was happy to switch them out with another car that had the same wheels with PS2's on them.

Pirelli P-Zeros are hands-down the best, imo.

But do a search for more opinions. This topic has been discussed at length.

I got P Zero's on mine. They are pretty good. Just the road noise is a bit louder. They handle well in both dry and wet road. Do keep in mind that you will replace them in around 10k anyway.

i have had trouble with tires, they replace them once because of the fact that they had flat spots. the second set seem to have the same problem.

Just a note about 'flat spots.' These tires are of such a soft compound that if you don't drive the car regularly you WILL get flat spots on them. About 4-5 miles of driving and they should be 'round' again.

KK

So, the tires are shot at 10,000 miles?

PZ- Great tires IMO faster wear since soft compound... they stick like fly paper.

PS2's- Low tire noise and medium wear medium compound... they also hook-up (stick).

This is generally the case with the rears, depends on your driving style. You may want to check out the users comments on these tires on the Tire Rack web site. I too have PZeros on my S and I like them just fine.

YMMV

My 996 had P-Zeros on it when I bought it used with 6,450 miles on the clock. If you run the rear tires at teh Porsche recommend 44 PSI, the center if the tires will wear out much faster than either the inner or outer edges. I ran the second set of rears at 38 PSI and got MUCH more even tread wear on that set.

They grip like crazy because they are soft and, because they are soft, they wear out fast. I went through 2-1/2 sets (long story) of rear tires in 23,000 miles. I really like the way the P-Zeros handle, but I don't want to put new rear tires on my car every 6 months (I drove 17K miles the first year of owning the 996) so I switched to a longer wearing Bridgestone tire.

My P Zeros were absolutely fine, but as noted above, the tread was down to the wear bars in the rears at 10,500 miles and 10 months of ownership. I am replacing all of the tires (front and rear) with Pilot Sport PS2s tomorrow morning.

I have heard good things about the PS2s at Tire Rack but I almost reordered the P Zeros since I was satisfied with them.

Can get better ride with lower pressure too. Downside if car is inactive for weeks can get flat spots quicker that may or may not come fully out when driving. I can fall into that category and keep the rears at 44 to 45lbs.

Is that 2 complete sets= 8 tires, plus 2 more for a total of 10 tires or is that 2 rears, plus two more rears, plus one rear for a total of 5 tires

Come on, Ben, you're missing out on this?

Sorry, couldn't resist
