My car is a manual. It's part of my definition of a sports car. But everyone needs to decide what their definition is.

Manual and my first one at that. Have always wanted a 6 speed, so now was the time. My daily driver in Los Angeles and honestly no regrets.

First manual and the best decision I ever made.

Daily Driver but only 12 minute low traffic commute.
I feel more in touch with this car (first porsche) then any I have ever owned. The manual transmission has alot to do with that.

The wife agreed to buy a Porsche as long as it's a tip so she can drive. So after 8 months she drove it less than 5 times. But to be honest, I need to take 237 everyday so I don't mind getting the tip.

I am totally satisfied with Tiptronic. Tip offers conveniency in the city and the performance in the winding mountain roads as well. Although I am in break-in period, I experienced several heart into mouth cornering and abrupt acceleration events that require above 4200 rpm and the Tip was always there reacting to the adrenalin pumped in me. If you're not so satisfied with the Tip, drive your p-car a little bit harder, then you'll know Tip is much more faithful and intelligent than you'd expect.

My wife said that I should get a tiptronic so she could drive the car too. So I got the manual six-speed.

I have a tiptronic. It was a hard decision for me. It is my daily driver and I travel 2-3 hours bumper to bumper traffic here, so manual was out of question. I have always believed in full driver interface and my first affair is with a SMGII M3. It was perfect. I have 300 km on my C4S and I already decided that this transmission belongs to a VW Bettle. It is slow and not to be able to control with the lever drives me crazy. The tiptronic controls on the wheel is totally a design disaster. They could at least pull up something like SMG paddles behind the wheel. Oh well it is a sacrifice for me to be able to drive a Carrera I guess so all is good.

Look at the 0-60 numbers for the S (4.6 and 5.0), The Tip is not too shabby.

Different subject maybe but: When Carrera's DSG comes out it's going to be faster than a manual. I'm gonna be the among the first to get DSG (got smg in my m3). Shifts are stinging fast.

How's the clutch life on the BMW SMG....I managed 5200 miles before the first clutch change in my old 360....and $4500 bill!!!! I always dropped into neutral when the car was at a stop, so it wasn't the way I drove it, just a victim of early adoption

LOL. Yeah it's in$ane. My 04 M3's going as soon as the warrenty is up. SMG servo actuation hydraulic mechanisms might be a huuuuuge repair bill.

I imagine clutch life also has alot to do with how aggressively you set the shifting speed. AFAIK the thing shifts consistently, smoothly and perfectly revmatched most of the time (on the 1-4 settings) so clutch life might be better than a manual. Setting it on "5" gives some jarring ($cary) shifts especially when you're flooring it.

I changed mine at 30000km. once and at sold at 55000 km. The reason that I needed a clutch replacement was that SMG hydraulic pump failure which caused clutch to burn to death and taken away from its lifetime. the car now has 65000 and running strong on the second clutch. the cost for me was 1700 euros for all the clutch assembly which was covered under warranty. I drove the car in 5th manual setting all the time so I guess it can take a beating.

My issue was preconcieved definitions going in to the purchase. When shopping I kept going back to the SL55 if I got an automatic 997S, so I got the manual. The new 997TT is SO hard for me to get my head around....but I gotta have one in the 3.4 0-60 range! I can't wait to feel that.
