Default RMS replacement question

I had my RMS replaced last fall in my '05 997. Does the dealer change the engine oil when they replace the RMS per Porsche's procedure? I'm headed into spring/summer driving season wondering whether I need an oil change. Thanks.

Call the service adviser and have them check the work order when they replaced your RMS gasket/seal. The dealership can perform a recall on any work done on your baby. Better to be safe...

Thanks for the info/advice. Didn't have ready access to the paperwork. I did call them and they confirmed the oil would have been changed - which is great...one less thing to get done.

Porsche will pay for new oil in most cases, but will not supply a new filter. Check with your advisor as right around that time the newest rear crank seal came out (total redesign, similar to the Cayenne) that has been phenomenal thus far (a marked improvement over the old style). They should be able to tell by the part number and the op codes used.

Yes, they do: 9 Mobil 1 Synthetic oil, just checked. That's strange, I asked the guy beforehand if they replaced engine oil for an RMS and he said no they didn't. Is this engine oil we're talking about or some other type of oil for that area? I think the 9 refers to number of quarts so it must be engine oil, plus I noticed the level topped up when I got the car back. TIA guys.

P.S. - That's a bummer I bought all the stuff(minus oil) for a DIY oil change based on this info.

I had the RMS replaced last week and never thought about the oil aspect until I read this post. I just called the dealer and they said that they did not change the oil. They went on to say that “……Porsche does not cover the cost, so the oil is not changed. You would have had to request it and paid for it."

Well, there you have it....the only constant with dealers is their inconsistency

Guys, is this RMS replacement an issue with all 997s, or just the '05s? I have an '06 that I'll be picking up this weekend and wondering if I'm going to have to keep a lookout for oil stains on the garage floor...

It's a random thing that seems to not go away. Just keep an eye out for it.

For those who've had it, how can you tell? I know that some P-cars have an oil pan to catch leaking oil. Does 997?

If all of a sudden you get a couple of drips under the rear engine area you can bet it's RMS.

Should my oil have been changed when they fixed the RMS problem? As stated above, my dealer said no....yet, others here have had theirs changed.

An update - stopped by the dealer today to pick up some wheel studs/lugs (going to take off the 'anti-theft' studs for good). I asked the parts guy if they replace the engine oil when they do the RMS. He said 'No', they only might need to top it off. So......I guess I need to find my receipt for the service and see if the oil is on there. I have more confidence in the response from the parts guy in person than the answer I got from the service advisor over the phone.
