Default XLF (PSE)

I have read several posts concerning XLF/PSE.

I am still a bit confused as to exactly how this feature works.

Is the XLF option controlled by an additional on/off switch inside the vehicle, or is it commingled with another function (ie Sports Chrono Package)?

Can you turn the additional sound on/off at will, or does the vehicle need to be in a specific configuration (ie accelerating, certain RPM's, certain Speed, etc).

With the Sports Chrono package, does the exhaust get louder in Sports Mode (without the XLF option installed)?

Thanks for clarifiying this for me.

if installed at factory its not hooked up to sport button - it has its own dedicated button...you can turn it on and off at will...when its on - there is still an rpm range where it quites down...you can buy a $1 valve flab and install in engine compartment to keep it on all the time if you want - but then you cant control with the button...it is louder with the valve also

I ordered the Sports Chrono Package.

Will I have PSE anyway when I push the Sports Button to activate the sports mode?

Sorry to say the XLF sport exhaust option is separate from the Sport Chrono option. I believe it's around $2,400 for the XLF option. My car which I bought used with 5k did come with Sport Chrono, but did not have the XLF option. I plan on adding the PSE this summer

there is a button on the dash that turns on stiffer shocks, sports exhaust and the twitcher throttle curve in the CPU. It also dials back the PASM if I'm not mistaken

Ther is a second button that defeats the suspension controls and returns to normal PASM but retains the CPU and exhaust settings.

Finally, you can just have the suspension mods on with the PASM scaled back, but no Sport Exhaust and no CPU tricksif you just activae the shock button.

When all else fails RTFM!!!

OK I RTFF but am confused....I ordered sport chrono and PSE on my car. It will be a 07 and at the dealer in August. I want to be able to run the PSE full time all the time, at idle and on the go. Will I be able to do this when ordered from the factory? Can't I just pull the little orange connector in the engine compartment to have it full on all the time?

With what you have ordered you should pull the plug on the engine and then you will have it on all the time.

That's the way to go. I was a a Porsche Club driving event today and I had at least 10 people come up to me and tell me how awesome my exhaust sounded (and there were about 50 - 60 Porsche's there including about 8 993's!!!!). I even had a guy with a 996 and Fabspeed exhaust tell me that he likes mine better (with the plugged pulled - it's pretty mellow, even in sports mode, with the cable connected).

PSE with the cable unplugged rules!

Alternatively, simply put it in Sport mode and then press the shock button so you get the sofer ride. That way you'll get the more agressive throttle curve and the sport exhaust. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want them both.

Dariof- I just had PSE added this past week by my dealer (Danbury). I have an 06' C2S Cab with Sports Chrono. With the Sport button activated, the PSE kicks on immediately and stays on except when at speeds from 30-50mph. As soon as you hit 30mph, the PSE kicks off and as soon as you pass 50mph is kicks back on. This effect is very noticeable as the sounds of PSE on is AMAZING! I had Fabspped mufflers on the car for about 500 miles and I just could not take the droning noise. Wit the PSE, so far, no drone. I have been told that to unplug the cable which is easily accessible in the rear, will enable PSE in all modes and at all speeds. I will try this as soon as the rain stops here on the EAST (Right) coast.

What does it cost to have a dealer install this?

My car is a June build, so I think I can call the dealer and add at this point. But if not, I would like to have an idea of cost to add after the fact.

Parts were $1881 and labor was $660. I also paid extra to have the parts expedited from Germany as there were none already in the US and did not want to wait any longer to get rid of the drone from the Fabspeed mufflers. You must also add your local sales tax. All in, you will be looking at $2600-$2700.

I'm not sure the exact price when included in a P-car order. I remember somewhere in the low $2,000 range however.

I'll try and add this to the order tomorrow. If I can't, at least I know it is not that much more having it done later.

I also want to add that satellite radio install where it is integrated into the Porsche Management Screen. I think that was around $2,800 or so out of La Jolla in South Orange County.

Of course, when I do this, I'll have to talk Ben into meeting me for lunch or something during the time my P is being worked on.
