Bike rack for a 997 Coupe?
Has anybody found a good bike rack for the 997, other than the ridiculously over-priced Porsche Tequipment rack? I searched the posts, but either nobody's brought this up before, or my search skills are really, really bad.

It was discussed a little over a year ago, but as an aside. You would have had to search through "entire posts" (a lot, lot slower process) instead of the usual "thread titles" to find it.
So you're breaking new ground actually with this thread.

Now I feel better, because Ben didn't immediately find several posts that had already discussed this issue to death
When I bought the car, my salesperson told me that the base roof transport system was about $200, and the add-on bike carrier was about $500, and $500 for the add-on bike carrier just struck me as totally ridiculous. Turns out she wasn't correct about that, as I just called the parts department to get an exact number, and the bike carrier itself is $214 (which is over-priced, but not horrendously) and the two-rail base roof transport system is $555.

However, the good thing is that you don't have to get the Porsche brand rack. In fact the Porsche one is made by Thule. SO might want to get the $214 bars from Porsche to get the nice Logos but buy the rack from Thule and it will fit your "OEM" roof bars (at least 50% the price, I think)

Agree with CGOMEZ. Buy the base system and then try the Thule V2 which would match the alum look of the rack.

Make sure to check with http://www.sunsetimports.com/ for the best price on the base system!

tkids is exactly right. I got the base RTS bars from Sunset Imports and then mounted my own Thule V2s from a previous setup. You need to get the adapter for the V2s to fit the Thule Aerobar. I ordered these directly from Thule for less than $20.
The Porsche rack can be mounted or taken off in less than 10 minutes. The connection posts fit the mounts perfectly and there is no trauma to the car. Great rack!

good for you actually using your porsche!
even if it will more than likely be for a roadbike
somehow I can't see my mountain bikes being on the roof of any 911

I dunno I doubt you'd bump the car, neither is particularly heavy and it's far from a tall car.

I'm looking for a system to carry two triathlon bikes on my 997S coupe...any photos of bikes actually mounted on a coupe (either on the roof or on a trailer hitch) would be greatly appreciated...cheers

Here is a link which shows a pic from the Tequipment section on the Porsche site.

Or you can also carry your own "bobsled"
