If anyone has come across a solution for these rear window noises, please post.
The rear windows rattled in my very early build 99 996; I can't believe this is still an issue

Ever find the source of the back seat area rattle?

Yeah, I'd like to know this myself since I've acquired one of those as well.

It could end up being something in the suspension...I'm bringing my car into the dealership to visit with the shop foreman on Friday. Something is loose back there rattling and now also squeaking in hard left turns AND IT'S MAKING ME FREAKING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have I ever mentioned I don't care for rattles and squeaks...

Very difficult for a factory to determine exactly where and or when a squeak or rattle may develop. The factory would literally have to place felt between every 2 opposing pieces of interior in the entire car. At that point it wouldn't be a $90K car it would probably be a $95K car, know what I'm kinda saying?

So in closing, the felt is a great fix if indeed you know where to place it.

Forgot to mention. I have a 2003 Ford Truck for a beater and I spent 2 days felting the entire dash, and I DO MEAN the entire dash. It squeaked and rattled so bad I was going to return it (bought used with 30 day no questions asked return).
After felting it is 100% squeak free, actually kinda enjoyable now, as much as a Ford truck can be.

I have a 97 MB E320 with over 160k miles.

It has been used as the learning and then primary vehicle for two teens, and is on its third. The car has been hit 4 times, 2 of them being fairly significant. While learning, my daughter yanked the car over a median at high speeds. While learning, my kids seemed to aim at every pothole on the street. It has been driven in weather from -21 to +111 degrees. It has been up and down mountains, on trails in woods, gone flying over railroad tracks. It has been parked outside in all kinds of weather at a commuter train station. It has been valet parked countless times. It has been overloaded taking a kid to college and driving cross country, and on family vacations. It has been hailed on a number of times. My son took it flying over a curb onto a neighbors front lawn. It has been through countless mechanical car washes. It has been towed from illegal parking spots - - just yanked right out of there, and impounded. And I could go on.

Still going: and not one single rattle.

My 997 rattles all over. I have two or three rattles in the dash, one in the passenger side door, and one in the passenger seat and they all happen at different speeds and on different road surfaces. It's my sole complaint thus far about the car.

Well, 500, unfortunately I'm actually with you on this one.

I hate rattles. squeks and vibrations - - perhaps even more than you (I cracked up when you described what you put your girlfriend through, because that's would I would do too!). And no offense to OCBen and the rest, but I really don't mind a few nicks in the paint, dings, etc. But when I am inside my car the only thing I want to hear is the engine noise, and the stereo if I turn it on.

I've got a 997 on order - - and I already told the dealer that I will be obsessive with rattles, so they better be prepared. I relayed my MB experience to hopefully spur Porsche on to make a rattle-free $100k car. As my experience with the MB shows, it should not be that hard!!!

So, 500 - - anticipating the rattles that you are reporting is right now reducing my excitement about getting one of these cars. I am hoping that I get a rattle-free one, or that at least my dealer has got some kind of wizard who can first find and then fix them.

Or, maybe Porsche should start offering "felt tape" as an option...

Hi Charlie, that was a good one. There's a 50/50 chance you'll get a rattle free car and most of the common rattles (psngr door, seat, most dash rattles) have easy fixes. I'm working on the ones from the rear of the car and hope/pray there is a known solution soemwhere within Porsche. Good luck and I'm sure you'll get a good one. BTW mine didin't start rattling until about 700 miles or so.

The rattles in the door and dash should be easily fixable...bring her in.

So far, I haven't identified the location of the rear rattle. I'm going to have them look at all the rattles when I bring the car in for its scheduled servicing. Until then, I'm being very zen-like about it all. Really, I do have far more important things to worry about. Also, while they are annoying, the fact that I have 12K+ miles on a high performance sports car that I can use comfortably as my daily driver WITHOUT A SINGLE MECHANICAL PROBLEM is pretty friggin' remarkable. I will take that trade-off every day and twice on Sunday.

How does any body hear any rattles? Up here, where the highway departments chipseal with 3/4 inch gravel, you have to shout to talk with your passenger. This is the first car I've driven where it is quieter on a concrete road rather than an asphalt surface. Admittedly, it's much better now that temps are above 45, rather than under 20 when I first picked up my car. But you guys must have some very smooth surfaces to drive on. Of course I knew the road situation when I ordered the car.
Which is why I got a C2 with 18 inch wheels/tires rather than the C2S with the 19's.

I'm in S Fl and the roads are butter smooth for the most part; when you hear so many squeaks and rattles on good roads it truly makes one wonder...
