Jason, like you I've had bigger issues than squeaks and rattles...it was out of commission for 10 days for a new Tiptronic transmission at 6k miles. The car currently has 10k miles, and [knocking wood] has had no other problems. It, too, is a lease...and I do love driving it...we'll see how the remaining 2.5 years unfold...

 

Smithee and Jason, it may not be your windows or rear panels. Mine was the hinges of the rear seat. Try releasing the latch to fold down rear seat, place sock or other cloth between seat and panel, then put seat back in upright position.

This "fix" has worked better than what the dealer could do so far. Putting the seat down only does not fix it. If you knock the rear seat around some, you can hear it, but it's far worse driving.

Let me know if this is your problem as well. I too thought it was the panel or the window.

 

Thanks, actually I did insert some terry towels that I had cut up all around the rear seat area. That did reduce the creaking coming from that area, but the window still creaks. My daughter rides in the back seat everyday and she also has pinpointed the creak emanating from the window area. I know the simple answer is 'take it back to the dealer' which is what I will have to eventually do, but I'm afraid that it will involve the hassle of getting higher ups in the service food chain involved since it will be fix attempt number 3. Plus, like many others on this forum, I am so jammed at work I have little time to deal with the b.s.

 

Would you please be kind enough to provide the fix for me as too have a plastic sounding rattle which seems to be emanating from somewhere behind the AC vents or center stack area and occurs when I hit a bump or accelerate causing something in there to move and rattle. I am normally excellent locating rattles and have already isolated a light one in the passenger door area but this one I cannot replicate by tapping the dash etc but only by driving which makes it much more difficult. Any updates on this rattle would be greatly appreciated.

 

you guys are starting to scare me.
there is nothing worse than rattle noises in the cockpit.
i expect nothing but perfection from porsche.
the only reason i bought my ugly *** camry was that when i test drove it, it had zero noises and drove very smooth!
so when i go for my P it better be nice and quiet.

 

My 993's were very tight and rattle free in the cockpit, my 996 was a rattle trap, my white 07S was rattle free and my new Meteor S has two rattles, one in the psngr door and the other in the dash as mentioned above. I think it's fair to say its about a 50/50 chance you'll get a completely rattle free car...

 

Hate to break it to you, Einstein, but there is no such thing as perfection coming from Porsche.

And it's even far from close too. But by and large it's one of the best products out there, even if it isn't as quiet as your ugly *** Camry.

 

Funny, I started this thread about a month before picking up my C2. And, true to form, mine has developed a few squeaks and rattles since then. To be honest, I've learned to live with them. I had the attitude with my Boxster S, much like some of those hear, that squeaks and rattles are simply unacceptable in a Porsche. Well, they're a reality friends. I would hazzard to guess that squeaks and rattles probably drive Porsche technicians crazier than any other warranty request - they're everywhere and virtually impossible to eradicate. When I take my car in for its scheduled maintenance, I'll ask them to look at them and do what they can, but I've simply become accustomed to the few I have an write it off as one small downside to owning an otherwise amazing car. I certainly think the tight suspension and crappy streets of San Francisco don't help. But when I had a 330i, that thing was rattle-free, and my wife's X5 is also rattle-free. I chalk it up to softer suspensions.

I have taken in My Emily for the some Squeak and rattle repair. They did found some legit rattles like panel clips not install properly, loose air bag clip at door panel etc...Others rattlings and squeak.. They indicated on repair bill "Acceptable within Porsche spec".

 

On my '05, I currently have some squeaking behind the dash and I think the rear seat (or rear window, not sure yet). I think its coming from the instrument cluster.

I can live with the rear sounds (engine drowns it out , just not he dash. Ah well, next time I bring it in, hopefully they'll take a look at it.

That being said, my '00 Acura Integra has no squeaks whatsoever, and I abuse it as much as I do my Porsche (although I guess at scaled down speeds).

 

I've now got squeaks all over the place but especially the dash. It's gotten worse as I've put on the miles. I've learned to live with it.

 

Yep, I've got one in the dash, one in the back seat area somewhere (seat??? window???), and one or two in the passenger side door. Occasionally, the one in the passenger side door gets worse with music with a lot of bass and will disappear when I turn the stereo off. Sometimes it doesn't. It can be maddening - and literally get you crazy angry - if you don't find your inner zen-like place that I have found which is to remind myself how otherwise friggin' sublime this car is. Really, in the grand scheme of things, I've got more important things to worry about than a little extra noise in the cockpit.

I'm one who doesn't mind the normal dings and nicks any car, driven daily, gets. Once I'm in the car, I don't even think about them - - as they are outside and I'm inside.

But I don't like rattles intefering with my driving experience. I hope my dealer svc dept turns out to be patient in trying to track these down.

ds2k1 - sounds like I may have to start my zen meditation now. Either that or crank up the PSE so I can't here anything else!

 

To ds2k1- I have the same problem on the passenger side door. It rattled during heavy bass playing. Dealer indicated it was the clips that hold the air bag in place. From the repair bill, they added 20cm of felt tape, 1.5 hours of labor to fix the problem. It worked... To verify, play music that trigger the ratllings. Now replay the music and this time put pressure on the panel arm rest or the air bag itself. If the rattle disappeared. Most likely that's the culprit. Felt ape is the cure of most rattling..

LOL!!!! I even have a rattling and vibration coming from the center rear view mirror. It's always blurry during high speed driving and the dealer say that's normal., believe that?

 

I've isolated my psngr door rattle to the lower rear corner of the door trim by placing a piece of felt in between the trim and door in two separate places and the noise has stopped. I also believe the noise in the center of my dash is coming from either the AC vents or directly behind them; I will investigate this further as when I close the center vents completely the noise stops but I'm not sure if the flaps are stopping the noise from coming through or it's the flaps themselves. I always prefer to isolate and fix rattles and squeaks myself vs. having the service dept do it in order to prevent any potential collateral damage and or unnecessary repairs only to find out when I get the car back the noise is still present. Once isolated and if I cannot stop the noise myself, I'll show the tech exactly where it is so he/she can do their thing and fix it properly.
