Thanks for reminding me. I need to go outside and pick a few. (BTW, I suggest the Nabal variety for texture. (Unfortunately, it's not produced for sale anywhere,--only found where someone planted one).

I test drove my 997 before buying it. Had never driven one before.

the thing is, if you get it at pickup and you don't like it, you don't have to buy it -
that's if it's at the dealership, in europe on delivery - it might be different!

Paid for mine before I'd ever driven one. Just one of those things I've wanted since I was young. Haven't been disappointed.

Never have had a test drive at a dealer.

Walked into my dealer and placed an order for my 2002.

Never officially test drove a 997 before ordering either.
But did attend the 997 dealer sales training at Cal Motor Speedway before the launch and received Hot Laps.

Would need a track to tell the difference between S and non-S; so "test drive" between the two in the streets is silly. Actually most test drives are bogus because you wind up breaking the speed limits if not wind up driving like a crazy man. So, I just bought the 997S car knowing it would be "even better" than the 996 which I've had considerable experience with on streets and some on track (friend has one).

I test drove a 997 coupe and a 997 cabriolet, but not a 997S.
On that basis I committed to a 997S Cab build spec that was already in the system, but not yet built.
I just figured, if the 3.6 was that good, then the 3.8 HAD to be every bit as good, and then some..... and it is!!!

Have "ordered" a MY07 C4S (that is, told the Sales Mgr. I want one and he said he'd get a July build), without driving a 996 or a 997. Ordered my '83 Cab without driving a 911. Bought my 993 without driving one. I figure that for what I want, if a 911 SC is good, and a 993 better, then a 997 is sure a safe bet for satisfaction.

I did drive the Cay S before ordering one and that convinced me. Essentially, I have deferred to all you knowledgeable/enthusiastic/**** Rennlisters. Get my track/speed kicks from a bike so the 997 represents a car with great response and handling that will stop now. Amenities are reasonably current, looks almost as good as a 993, and is technically a superior ride. Time to move up. Thanks to all of you for the resource that is the Rennlist forum.

Hadn't driven a Porsche since 1978 - 1971 911T. Took delivery of an 06 C4S coupe which was the very vehicle I got to test drive.

I test drove a 996 GT3--too raw for my use. Did not drive a 997; not that it would have made a difference after 30 years.
